Source says Romney won't seek re-election in '06
AP via Capital News 9 ^ | 12/14/2005

A source close to Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said he has decided not to seek re-election as governor in 2006.

The decision is seen as increasing the likelihood that Romney will seek the Republican nomination for president in 2008.

The source said Romney will make the announcement this evening.

With Romney out of the race, Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey is expected to seek the Republican nomination for governor next year.

Romney has made numerous appearances at GOP events across the country in recent months, raising his national profile for a possible White House bid.

Perhaps he could team up with Pataki, what a great team that would be.

I knew Romney had national political aspirations when he got his press secretary's office remodeled on "While You Were Out".

Free publicity.

Rowland could join in, too, except he's in jail. Well, the understudy, Jodi Rell, is made of the same stuff.

Howie Carr calls her Muffy. I'll vote for her but she has 'lightweight' painted all over her.

I apologize for my ignorance, but what are Romneys politics? From what I've seen of him he's an attractive candidate and very well spoken.

Be careful...Romney is "persona non grata" among some Freepers.

Romney would make a great candidate in '08. He's a strong fiscal conservative (he balanced Massachusetts budget... not an easy job), and he is a strong supporter of the war on terror. He's also a great orator and he's been in really tough races before. I'd love to see a Romney/Allen ticket in '08.

Romney has strong conservative credentials. He also ran a successful Olympics and has a proven track record as a successful businessman ($$$). Having said all that I don't think he has a prayer to win the nomination.

I like Romney...but he does bring out the ire of some on our side.

I think he has a chance, allthough I tend to think Rudy has the best shot.

Hopefully when the time comes, a good, strong candidate will emerge, because none of these guys being puffed by the press have much appeal to social conservatives.

Well don't seek election in 08 either Romney, you Rino trash. Unless you want to run against Teddy for senate.
You just might be a teeny tiny bit better than the Walrus.
