I read about him. A rabid Reagan hater.

One of the few Democrats I had respect for.

He was well-liked in Wisconsin. Truly a throwback to the good old days when politicians really cared about the people.

Back when Proxmire was a Democrat, so was I.

They were a different party back then. If they want to know how to get their mojo back, they should look at Proxmire's example and follow it.

Feingold is a Proxmire wanna be. Never will accomplish anything but getting re-elected for being a maverick.

Soon he carved out an independent streak on Capitol Hill by introducing amendments without consulting the party heads, filibustering, and even criticizing the dictates of then-Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson.

In that respect, he resembled to a certain degree the style of a latter-day maverick and government spending critic, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain.

John McCain is not fit to shine Proxmire's shoes.

Sen. Proxmire was hated Reagan and Republicans, but he despised governemt hypocrisy more.

I'll remember him as the last of the "loyal opposition".

I can only think of Edith Bunker talking about "Senatah Proxmyah. Proxmyah, Proxmyah, Proxmyah!"
