Yes, I live in Lynchburg and Liberty University is turning out some solid citizens. Our company hires their grads every chance we get. For one thing, they already know how to wear a tie, as the dress code for males at LU requires ties.
I thought 'conservative college' was an oxymoron....
I guess I'd better not bring up my alma mater: Sam Houston Institute of Technology; good old S.H.I.T. We were always rated #2.
Wished I'd known about these conservative schools when my young one started. I do believe he'd be less liberal.
I will say though, that between UA and Kent State...UA is definitely the more conservative of the two.
I sure would love to see a list of public unversities...
Indeed. And Evergreen college should at least rate a "dishonorable mention." They chose Mumia, the death row cop killer, as their commencement speaker. That's the role model they hold up for their students.
LOL, their loss! You a tech grad, or a yooper?
I used to be stationed at K.I. Sawyer and rode with a club that took many rides up there. I probably would still live up there if there were more jobs. Retirement is not that far away though.
what about the city of evil?
I know a little about Franciscan. A priest named Fr. Michael Scanlan was sent there about 20-25 years ago to be the new president. What he found was a typical Catholic college, a college that was Catholic in name only, and where boozing and partying and fornicating were the order of the day, as on most secular campuses. So he cleaned house, instituted mandatory chapel, forbade overnight stays in dorms, cleaned up the curriculum, etc. He was under fire and a lot of students left, but when word got out that this was turning into a REAL Catholic college, it started attracting serious Catholic students and began to prosper. From being on the verge of insolvency, it became financially stable and spiritually dynamic.
I'm so proud of my hometown's, Indiana Wesleyan University!
They are growing by leaps and bounds, too!
I just got done with by BA at LU (Liberty) and all I can say is WHOOHOO, and that Dr. Falwell is awesome, and definately dedicated to Christian evangelism and spreading the Conservative cause throughout America (and the world)! Thanks- Jeremy :).
did: since about 2002-2003 (not sure, cause I didn't start to go there since Jan-03) but the dress code has since been changed and (loosened up quite a bit), but there are still people who do dress up here, and know how to (ME INCLUDED) ;D.
My niece, after spending 3 semesters at University of North Carolina - Greensboro shocked me at Thanksgiving with her calls for the DEATH of the President. Called himn a lair and a murderer.
Public education sucks, including the state-sponsored University of North Carolina system.
I live in Norfolk VA, and my daughter is going to Regent (if I have any say). My wife won't let her try for the US Naval Academy. But that's a long way off, she's only 5.
I really miss it there. I have moved a lot, but have never been 'homesick' until I left da UP.
You must be proud and relieved to know that she will be well educated and not brain washed....
Unfortunately, small pockets of flaming liberalism can be found even in snowy Houghton. My son learned that the hard way as a freshman, by attending the ELCA campus ministry congregation. The pastor looks and sounds like George Carlin. Just an old hippie. I had the personal displeasure of sitting through one of his political tirades masquerading as a sermon. One of the most active members of this congregation is the county DNC chair. My son hadn't even yet experienced his first Houghton snowfall before he refused to again set foot at this poorly-attended excuse for a congregation.
On the whole, however, agreed... MTU is still a relatively conservative place and an excellent school!
Excellent! Great company here on FR. What is he studying?
There are some pockets there, but over all it is a great place. Not too much 'in your face' type nonsense there. I was probably 'off the wall' by MTU standards when I was there, have since grown up!! ;-)
Which church does he go to? I went briefly to one on College Ave, our pastor was somewhat hippy-esque, but don't remember too much leftism from him.
No offense to your brother or sister, but making such trite statements usually shows a weak mind and horrible intellectual disposition. Hopefully when your niece gets into the real world she will have a conversion similar to David Horowitz.
