Did our side give up again?
In the immortal words of Tonto: What you mean "we", pale face?
He's right.
I'm glad it hasn't been made permanent.
Cornyn is one of the Socialist Community of North America advocates.
He's not on the side of liberty.
"We must give law enforcement the tools they need, with the safeguards we all demand.
Don't know why the Repubs want the "Patriot" act permanent. Might try limiting the "Patriot" act to terrorism too.
Does he have something he'd rather not be found out? Is he worried about arab compatriots?
I have a problem with federal authorties doing "sneak and peak" in my house, without a warrant, and never being allowed to know if, or when they did it, and more importantly, WHY! How ling would that be going on when and if I came home and cought someone in my house, and I shot and killed the intruder? Do I go to jail for the rest of my life? Will my family be without their father because I wanted to protect my family and my home?
I have another problem with the federal authorities being able to run background checks for gun purchase records of every American without a warrant. Does anyone really believe that a terrorist will follow the law in the event they want a weapon to murder fellow Americans? Only the law abiding and honest Americans will be violated.
I don't need the government checking my business records without a warrant, for lets say, my political beliefs? Clinton used the IRS to go after his political enemies when he was in office, what would prevent another liberal to go after a conservative because of his/her political views? Have we all forgotten Ronney Earl?
Finally, No one really even read the Patriot Act the first time around, and after it was passed, then and only then, did many become concerned about the violations of civil rights of Americans. To throw away our basic rights away, is to allow the terrorist to win against us.
Just a thought!
"We cannot complain about the failure to connect the dots" says it all. Congress is principally to blame for much of our intelligence failures. A congressional inquiry - 9/11 Commission - is useless.
If my a "return to pre-9/11 mindset" he means the mindset of a free, liberty loving country that is wary of a powerful federal government, I agree and applaud.
Somehow I doubt that's what he meant however.
Seems NYC needs to be hit again to make a point.
