I saw some of the same comments you did and thought that people must have skimmed it and assumed Melanie was saying Susan Kennedy made the decision to go ahead with the execution.

But, as you point out, Melanie's point is not that - but rather her assertion of the reasoning for Schwarzenegger's decision to deny clemency. Because he couldn't take another hit on his right flank.

Glad you caught that. I was too tired of responding to other posts and points to make that point as well.

I'm an article-skimmer, so I recognized the problem. :)

Let's do a modern day Boston Tea Party, dress up like liberals, and demand that Kennedy resign so as not to be "tarnished" by Arnie's decision! Because, right thing on Tookie or not, I doubt if Anrie can survive the decision to bring her aboard.

I think the point is that had Susan Kennedy declined the job and Arnold picked a conservative, he might have been tempted to tilt to the left and his Hollywood buddies by sparing Tookie.

The fact that Susan Kennedy accepted the job was the final nail in Tookie's coffin. Arnold may have let Tookie take the needle any way, but the Kennedy appointment certainly sealed his fate.

Melanie is saying that Arnold felt compelled to tilt to the right on this one. I am having a little fun with the liberals by blaming it all on Kennedy. Without the fire storm on the right, who knows what he might have done?

"In my town two 14 year old girls were sentenced to 4 years for murdering a pregnant 17 year old. There was nothing but warm embraces and compassion for the heinous criminals."

I have two questions:
1. What misbegotten turd world country do you live in?
2. Were the killers black, white, Hispanic oriental, or Native American?

We really don't know, do we? We can only guess at Arnold's motives. We have a difference of opinion.

I live in eastern Iowa, and the girls were white.

Yikes! What are they putting in the water there, anyway?

Why did the two 14 year old murderesses say they killed their victim, if I may ask?
