This now becomes LETS MAKE A DEAL. From what I read they want fewer raids.....we counter with we want Zaraqwi...its horse trading now.
The Sunnis are a minority. If they want us to leave so they can start a civil war it doesn't sound like a good plan to me, especially as the government of Iraq will be able to count on US support at least through 08 and probably beyond.
The same thing is true of North Vietnamese military history. Except that instead of a sandstorm, they waited for the U.S. MSM to blow smoke.
I expect regular bases to be established in Iraq via treaties with the new democratically elected government. In fact, I expect we'll be there at least as long as we've had post WWII bases in Germany. These bases will serve as launch points for the liberation of Iran.
And them Iraqi boys ain't a' gonna just be using no panties on the head! Haven't heard their leaders talk about any "we don't do no torture" rule.
Trust but Verify
Agreed Rebel.
But I am trying to remember, arent we losing?
Isnt getting the last group on board a sure sign of impending defeat?
Lets find some war heroes to ask.....there seem to be a lot of them running around Washington these days.
good anology
Fight in rubble for nothing... or play-the-game for power and a piece of the pie. One thing is certain, you will hear little of this on the talk-shows today.
.....Slow learners to be sure......
You are correct. The question raised by this action is what can these leaders contribute to the ongoing process of developing a new government and nation?
Can they in fact control the minority zealots who are warring agaist the rest of the country?
Will they abandon their alliance with Al Queada and turn on them?
Time will tell.
And you can bet your bottom dollar they won't have McPain's bill of terrorist rights to protect them.
This isn't the first time I've said this to you, nor will it be the last I'm sure. But thank God you are not in charge!
The Iranian point is a big deal and one that has been vastly unappreciated. Iran wants Iraq under its influence and the Sunni's and Kurds simply won't allow that to happen. Once we leave the region who knows how that one shakes out but you can certainly bet that our former enemies are going to develop a strong interest in becoming our best friends.
They see us as not being there forever and if you think that they hate us it pales in comparison to how they feel about the Iranians.
AQ is running out of allies.
" Al Qaeda was never part of the truce, and yesterday it reportedly threatened to continue its campaign of terrorism.
"We say to our [Sunni] brothers: do not be fooled by what you have heard of the propaganda from the crusaders and their footmen," said an Internet statement from Al Qaeda in Iraq.
"The coming days will show you the fate of this 'democratic marriage' and the marriage of prostitution that it celebrated," said the statement on a frequently used terrorist Web site.
The group, led by Jordanian Abu Musab Zarqawi, also said it did not halt attacks during last week.

Not as slow as some people.
Jordan military court sentences al-Zarqawi to death (again)

Al Sadr wants to count chads:
"Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, in a speech in the city of Najaf, warned against possible fraud in the election results and called for an independent committee to be formed to count the ballots, Al-Hurra television reported."
Wait, I thought the US was losing the war? Senators, Congressmen, the NY Times and CNN have been saying so non stop!
