Black-history month ripped as ridiculous (Morgan Freeman blasts label as divisive to all Americans)
WorldNetDaily ^ | 12/18/05 | WorldNetDaily

Posted on 12/18/2005 11:53:14 AM PST by wagglebee

Actor Morgan Freeman has a solution to the problem of racism – "Stop talking about it!"

In a CBS News' 60 Minutes profile of the Oscar-winning actor scheduled to air tonight, Freeman tells Mike Wallace labels like "white" and "black" are an obstacle to defeating racism.

"I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man," he says. "I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You wouldn't say, 'Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.' You know what I'm saying?"

The actor also criticizes Black History Month, saying setting aside a special month actually segregates black history from American history. Calling the idea "ridiculous," Freeman notes there's no "white history month."

"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" Freeman asks Wallace. "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history," he says.

Freeman, who won his first Oscar for his role in "Million Dollar Baby" last year, has starred in numerous films, including "The Shawshank Redemption," "Unforgiven," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "The Bonfire of the Vanities," "Glory" and "Driving Miss Daisy."

I salute him for saying it.

He usually does. In a period when middle class blacks affect ghetto speak, he took diction lessons and came up with a voice one which, like Richard Burton's is melodious and useful for a range of parts while remaining uniquely his.

You tell 'em, Mr. Freeman!

(He's a great actor - loved him in Shawshank Redemption and others - but of all his work, "E-Z Reader" on the Electric Company will forever be a favorite role for those of us old enough to remember... "Out-a-sighteous!")

"Shawshank Redemption" is one of my all time favorite movies, my only wish is that that a$$hole Tim Robbins wasn't in it.

Yes it is very interesting to me and I agree with Freeman 100% , I am thinking about changing my Freeper Handle to something else but most of you know me as TBM, so I plan to leave it that way. I remember when I use to own my business in Maryland and would receive calls from possible clients, most where shocked when I came around the corner or stepped off the L, I guess to be Black and well spoken is something rare in America to some and usually it was some liberal a**hole, who has a f*cked up idea of what a Blackman is suppose to think, dress and speak like, Freemen will be condemn by the so-called civil rights crowd for speaking on this.

From the few times that I have watched television this year, I guess one could get that impression. Thankfully, a walk about my neighborhood dispels any such notion fairly quickly.

I can't stand Robbins either, but I always thought he was a good actor before he started talking about politics. :-)

Shawshank was taken from a Stephen King story in his book "Different Seasons", and that one story was a great read, too.

He makes sense, yet at the same time, I don't think it's such a bad idea to have some reference to ethnic contributions to history. A very good and entertaining book is How the Irish Saved Civilization, about how the Irish were instrumental in saving many important texts in medieval times which now help us understand our heritage (RIP). But a book or two is sufficient, not a whole month, year after year.

All of the stories in "Different Seasons" are excellent, it's the only book by Stephen King that I've ever read.

This just further proves that the balance is tipping against Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al, as African Americans such as Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman begin to speak some common sense.

Jesse "knock 'em up" Jackson can go back to his old job of impregnating the women of his staff and Calypso Louie Farrakan can return to what he does best which is crapping on old whitey in the name of his murdering god "whatzis name".

My wife and I went out for dinner last night, at a nice chain restaurant, in Burlington, IA. Our waitress was as black as Michael Jordan, and spoke with such polish. I was expecting at least some 'accent'(searching for the right word), but was greeted and spoken to with English professor precision. I almost didn't want to speak. You see, I'm stuck with my country boy dialect, and felt reluctant to reveal my 'hick' speech pattern.

I really enjoy moments like that, when stereotypes get clobbered.

Like Bill Cosby, Freeman can't really be punished. He's made his money and he doesn't need Hollywood or the left. About all they can do to him is trot out Danny Glover or prop up Harry Belafonte and have them call him a house n-gg-r.

There's a month for everyone, unless you're a straight white male without a handicap. That much diversity isn't valued!

Women
Hispanics
African-Americans
Asian and Pacific Islanders
Native Americans
Handicapped
Homosexuals & ???-gendereds

Have I left anyone out!

...I don't think it's such a bad idea to have some reference to ethnic contributions to history.

I don't know of any case when an "ethnic" or "racial" group has really made any great contributions to society. It has always been the work of individuals doing the right thing and doing the hard work; sometimes alone, sometimes with others. The society can help the individual, but in the end it is always many men and women chosing to do the necessary work that betters society. Being Jewish didn't make Einstein a brilliant physicist, hard work and his own natural talent did.

It's a dangerous thing to start attributing good or bad behavior or a man's benefit to society to his skin color or ethnicity.

I don't think it would be very wise for Glover or Belafonte to come out trashing Cosby and Freeman for their rich, white friends at the DNC. ALL Americans think very highly of "the Cos" and Morgan Freeman and would not tolerate that kind of Barbra Streisand from Danny and Harry.

I think your first sentence takes care of the potential problem you note in your second sentence. Last I checked, there are still more whites in this country than blacks. Mr. Fairchild won't starve as long as those of us who think he's a great actor continue to see his movies. I also suspect that people who see him in that light are not all white, either.

Believe it or not he's been saying stuff like this for a long time, he just doesn't get much press for saying it. I suspect that Hollyweird is afraid of saying/doing anything because they'll look like racists...

Anywho I've had the honor of meeting him at his restaurant in Clarksville. He seemed a very honest person and a wonderful gentleman with no pretensions. He didn't want to talk about himself or movies but, finding I was from Texas and figuring I knew something about horses, he wanted to talk about that (of which I must say he knew a lot more about than I did, me being only acquainted with nags).

The world would be a better place if there were more people like him.

Danger! Danger! Danger! Unauthorized independent thinking detected!

An American (who happens to be of African ancestry) has strayed off the reservation. Corrective steps will have to be taken by DNC, NAACP, and the reverends Jackson, Sharpton, and Farrakhan.. If subject does not realize the error of his ways he may be subjected to banishment from liberal society per The Clearance Thomas Protocol.

[My respect for Mr. Freeman, on the other hand, has increased 1000%.]

Well there goes any future invites from the race pimps. Guess Morgan and Denzel will have to watch the super bowl game at Bill Cosbys house since they will now be labeled house slaves. Seriously, Jesse and Sharpton don't need white racists, those reverse bigots do a perfect job of keeping the black population down and oppressed as if they were back in the worst poverty stricken parts of Africa.
