1. Let's finish up in Iraq first and give the America-hating mullah's time to let it sink in.
2. Give the Iranians the opportunity to overthrow the current regime and implement democracy for themselves.
I am sick to death of Americans dying for and at the hands of Muslims.
If we get into a crises where something has to be done NOW then go ahead ... but even then good luck trying to sell it to the American public.
War with Iran would be disastrous.
And Iran with a nuclear device is what nightmares are made of.
Since they're working feverishly on nuclear weapons and missile delivery systems, that should be enough. Add that to the bizzare and dangerous rhetoric coming out of Tehran lately, and NOW seems a little tardy.
Who says that it has to be the Americans who will do the deed? Think on it, friend.
=====================================================================
reason 1 - we will not be 'finished' in Iraq for years.
reason 2 - What makes you think that the iranians are ever going to rise up? There is no evidence of any real movement.
I agree with your final statements.
That appears to be the best of the options, but first we need solid intel on the "mental" state of the Iranian military leadership. Are they of the pure Islamist mindset that their highest purpose is to die fighting Infidels, or would they participate in the overthrow of a regime which would guarantee their destruction if left unchecked?
The older generation may still be passing along stories of the semi-free times under the Shah, and a few years of seeing Iraq's example of self chosen rule may open a lot of eyes; but we probably don't HAVE a few years.
I trust Israel to do what has to be done to the nuke facilities at the appropriate time, but would much prefer that a nuclear "accident" occur (with plausible deniability on the part of the U.S. and Israel) to solve the problem.
