Surely a quid pro quo of some sort took place, otherwise this doesn't make sense.

Two things come to mind.

1) A scientist being controlled by a madman has limited ability to resist. Their family may have been at risk.

2) They could have demonstrated this by giving EVERYTHING they had as soon as Saddam was put under lock and key.

Great! Now they can go dig up the hidden WMD and sell it to the terrorists, not to mention that they have the knowledge to make more.

"Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson, the spokesman for the US-led Multinational Force, did say that US officials on Saturday released eight people formerly designated as high-value detainees, after a board process found they were no longer a security threat."

Great. Didn't we just found out that the Iraqis had Zarqawi last year and released him, wasn't that a great idea?! What do they think these former Baath officials with lots of technical knowledge are going to do?

I bet Bin Laden and Zarqawi is on the phone with them already, offering them $$$$$.

All is well with this.
Should it save the lives of British or American captives, I'm all for it. These animals will be tracked down and will meet their demise. Remember that right now torture can not be performed will in official custody. There is no way these demented followers of Mohamed, the murdering pedophile prophet, will slip away.

I'll bet that we already know where these two are going. It doesn't matter - and their former Baathist buddies will NEVER trust them.

I doubt that either of them will live to see the new year.

Why were they on the list in the first place, then? And now we're releasing them? This is not going to play well in the heartland.

Unbelievable!

Sounds like they're in need of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether...

Just what they need to make them feel better.

How long before some liberal MSM outlet interviews them or makes a TV drama out of it?

Maybe Rather could make the interview! lol

You know some NYT's or European socialist smear rag will talk of their story, give them lots of credibility and even make side innuendoes of torture and mistreatment.

I'm surprised "Der Spiegel" hasn't run a cover article on it yet!

after a board process found they were no longer a security threat.

The only way these people are no longer a security threat is if they're 6 feet under.

We'll regret this decision when they resurface in Iran or Syria, leading bio-weapons projects for al-Qaeda once again.

19 December 2005: Dr. Germ. Mrs. Anthrax released from jail in Iraq

Reports from Baghdad indicate that Rihab Taha, the British-educated biological weapons expert who is often called Dr. Germ, and Huda Salih Mahdi Ammash, aka "Mrs. Anthrax", who was a Baath Party official and biotech researcher, have been released from prison in Iraq.

The release of the two women was demanded on several occasions as a condition for release of foreign hostages held in Iraq by Zarqawi's group. Several of these hostages were beheaded when the demands for the women's release were not met.

Indications are that both women may have already left Iraq because of fears regarding "security".

As an European, how can I respect the US gov. anymore?
WMD: lies.
Democracy in Iraq: lies.
Etc....

The US my family used to respect and love are gone.

It's all over now.
Goodbye, and good luck to you all.
