BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- A Hezbollah militant sentenced to life in Germany for murdering a U.S. Navy diver during the 1985 hijacking of a U.S. jetliner has been freed, officials said.

The German government denied on Tuesday the release was related to the freeing of a German hostage in Iraq.

Mohammed Ali Hamadi was released Thursday and allowed to return to his native Lebanon on the next day, after qualifying for parole after 19 years in prison, said Ulrich Hermanski, spokesman for the North Rhine Wesphalia state justice ministry.

"There was no special treatment," Hermanski said in a telephone interview.

Thanks. I was in the med when this happened. Clinton wasn't the only poor response, Regan missed this one. A pissed off ship. I hope that DDG namesake gets some.

I don't know what Reagan could have done to prevent this tragedy. My biggest disappointment with him was withdrawing our troops after the Beirut barracks bombing.

"The German government had no influence on this, nor was the release of the German hostage in Iraq an issue here."

BULL$#!T

Don't apologize for these dirtbags here.

Time heals all wounds... and helps us forget who the enemy is. Just in case no one remembers, Our own Dr. Rice frequently meets and warmly greets the head of the PA, who was (is) a terrorist, involved in the Munich massacre. So, if Condi can forgive and forget... why should we expect Germany to be different.

It was the lack of response that hurt. Somebody needed to be whacked, something pounded.

Well, I think most people (including Allied pilots) who know anything about it would agree that what we did to Dresden was a crime on many levels. The war was all but over in Europe, and attacking the defenseless city packed with refugees served no strategic purpose.

He served his term, and I don't think the German government can do anything but release him. But we can and should deal with him in an appropriate manner, i.e. he should extradited here and prosecuted, and, failing that, taken down.

Yes, indeed, the view must be addictive up there on the moral "high" ground.

Doing the "right thing" is like shooting fish in a barrel, when you know what is going to happen, when a risk others had to take, is no risk for you.

Have at it, our opinions mean nothing, that WAR is history, it is moot.

But, I worry about how such fuzzy thinking will endanger us in these times.

But, then I cheer up again when I remember the rule of thirds!

The German government denied on Tuesday the release was related to the freeing of a German hostage in Iraq.

That's funny... didn't the Germans pull this same crap after the Munich olympics?

I see you are over here now defending the cowardly Germans. We are commenting on precisely your point - that Germany considers this justice. We don't. And we think they are wrong.

Not much behind the story? Releasing terrorist murdering hijackers? Is this common in Germany? How many have they got?

Note that just because Germany trades prisoners for hostages won't change our opinion that:

1.) Germany is following close on the heels of France and Spain in the weasel parade.
2.) We should finish the job the Germans are too weak to do.

In other words, it is sad Germany is so weak, and German weakness should not influence our actions.

Since you are such a good hearted guy - how about you sign up to take responsibility for any future terrorist activities of this piece of human garbage. Can we put your name down? You want to take responsibility for him? How about Frau Merkel?

Put up or shut up.

You know that Stethem is still dead - yes? Wow - 16 years - oooh that is so long - that is like - life - no wait - he was sentenced to life - that is like - 16 years. His victim would be 45.

Is he still dead, or has some German mastermind found a way to bring him back to life? Is death permanent in Germany?

Your nation has freed a fanatic dog - a known international terrorist - back into the world. This was not a traffic accident.

We are sorry that German Justice shows so little judgement.

Thanks for Munich, by the way. Another fine example of German Justice.

Dresden was bombed either in preparation for a Russian offensive or as payback for Coventry, depending on your history guide.

Either way - they earned it.

So you're saying all the people there earned it, including young children. I'm sorry that's how you feel, and I hope one day you'll change your mind.
