Interesting strategy, but one that could work. Syria is pretty much an ally of Russia, so we will try to side step anything that has to do with them.
Iran knows this, and figures that if can get its nukes to Syria, the US will be lambasted if/when we take back Iran. That and the Iranian nukes have a much better shot of hitting Israel from Damascus than Tehran.
Of course if a nuke DOES hit Israel, regional nuclear war will start rather quickly. And we think we have high gas prices now!

Teheran would seek to upgrade Syrian ballistic missiles and chemical weapons systems. Under the accord, Iran would also be prepared to operate "advanced weapon systems in Syria during a military confrontation." Jane's said. This is a hell of a lot more than a "storage pact"....this is a war alliance.

It seems as though all the business and monies we give to China is going to bite us in the ass someday. I wonder sometimes if we are just helping build arsenals against ourselves. What do we need the Chinese for anyway to build our stuff cheap? Thats what most of the products are too..Cheap Chinese crap. The more we buy the more we die...
The Russians surprise me as well. Why would they want to supply Muslims with arms?? They won't need any oil when there all dead. The French are dead already.Who cares..

The Russians surprise me as well. Why would they want to supply Muslims with arms?? To fight proxy wars with the US and to develop a counter weight to all the former Soviet Bloc countries becoming our allies. Russia views the US as a much bigger threat then they do the muslims, to their own peril.

Syria agreed to store Iranian materials and weapons should Teheran come under United Nations sanctions. Sounds great. We know the UN loves to impose sanction after sanction, rather than commit to action. Call for them right now. Moving the weapons and materials into Syria makes it a little easier for the Israelis to take them out while a follow up strike on the production facilities in Iran can be arranged.

Syria should be first, really.
1. More vulnerable internally.
2. Weaker miltarily
3. Smaller
4. Poorer
5. We have them effectively surrounded, counting Israel.
6. Easier to make the case, given how they funnel terrorists into Iraq.
Iran would be more difficult to occupy, as well, unless we use the new Iraqi army we build up in a few years.

I saw this on Drudge too. Why not they hid them for Iraq! I still believe that is where the WMD's are. Even though President Bush agrees they were never there. Which I think was wrong of Bush to do.

Just got done meeting with our NWYC rep.
He says he won't be surprised if we don't see Syria getting attacked by Israel in Jan. because of the missile system Syria will be getting from Russia.
To: redgolum
Of course if a nuke DOES hit Israel, I'm holding out for it to polish the Dome of the Rock off the temple mount, clearing the way for the Third Temple...

I've been sensing a strike from Israel as well. Israel has been rattling it's sword lately, particularly among the candidates for prime minister in Israel's ongoing election campaign.
I've heard it could either by Syria or Iran, but I'm placing a bet on Syria.
To: BigSkyFreeper
Yeah, our NWYC guy was saying SoS rice was trying to get Putin to stop the sale of Iskander Missiles to Syria.

Here's an interesting thought: how can a country become a regional superpower, complete with WMD, without the difficulty and expense of their own R&D programs? Simple: let Iran and Iraq do the hard work, and then just offer to "store" their results in your own bunkers.
