So Linus wrote Linux when he was 10 years old?

I've already been called on the carpet for this gaffe.

I had meant to say "Unix", rather than "Linux" (and I did check my facts on Unix before originally posting).

Sorry about that!

Notice the similarity in tone and rhetoric to the fanboi, and, say, Louis Farrakhan, with all sorts of oddball conspiracy theories, presented with all the requisite bile and venom, to explain why The Man holds black people down - when The Man isn't busy holding Linux down, that is.

Then there are the kneepadders that will see no wrong in what an obvious criminal does, as long as that criminal is succesful. Notice the similarity in tone and rhetoric to, say, Monica Lewinsky or Nina Burleigh, with all sorts of oddball enabling excuses for criminal behavior, presented with all the requisite bile and venom, to explain why The Man should be able to break the law and get away with it simply because he's got a lot of money - when The Man isn't busy saving the world for forced sterilizations and abortions or helping the Communist government of China crush dissent, that is.

Pray tell, o preachy one, what differences do you see between George Soros and Bill Gates that make you hang around here and lambast one and then canonize the other?

You might want to do some research before you respond.

I know, I was just piling on.

Such are the depths of fanboi-ism - I failed to provide the requisite kowtowing to the preferred solution, so I must be acting with the goal of furthering the other "side". No other motive is entertained, especially not the possibility that the observations are presented because they are accurate - assigning the observer to the other camp allows the fanboi to automatically dismiss any criticism without further consideration. Note the pronounced lack of introspection upon being mildly criticized, for example - in the fanboi's mind there is no legitimate criticism of the fanboi or his preferred solutions, and so noting the shortcomings of one "camp" is sufficient to be labeled as "canonizing" the other "camp". The fanboi then proceeds with the one response he knows to criticism - attacking as though the critic were on the other "side".

Keep this kind of thing in mind next time someone wants to sell you an IT solution, folks - are they trying to do what's best for you, or are they trying to Fight Evil, and you just happen to be in the crossfire?

I know, I was just piling on.

That's just plain evil!

The *real* irony, however, is that I'm the author of a "Unix book". :(

Isn't that how Bill Gates got his start?

Pretty much.

Didn't he swipe some ideas from IBM and claim them as his own?

Actually, he swiped the ideas from this guy

He didn't claim them as his own, he just kept the money.

Later, he swiped ideas from Apple.

There wasn't Linux before Gates.

I was going to mention that, figured someone would have by now.

There was UNIX before Gates though.

It will be interesting to see if the supreme court is insane enough to declare everyone under thiry years old a born felon

They seemed insane enough to rule that private property can be taken by the state to give to another private entity contrary to the intent of eminent domain.
