That's sufficient time to strip out all the unacceptable features.

Anyone who thinks the Gorelick Wall is acceptable for even 1 minute should be tarred and feathered. Can somebody explain something to me? If it didn't require an act of Congress to erect this wall, why does it require an act of Congress to take it down?

Hopefully " six months " will evolve into an indefinite, "no sunset clause" timeframe. Why stop there? After all, government grants the rights of citizens correct?

Hopefully " six months " will evolve into an indefinite, "no sunset clause" timeframe. Right on, GWB. Make it indefinite on Executive orders next time. Fine with me.What you want is called an 'enabling act'.

And rightly so; Frist stabbed Stevens in the back with what he did today; Frist needs to go.

And when will that be? When the executive branch decides that it's over and it will give its new powers back?
Bush will be president for only 3 more years. The war on terror will last a lot longer than that. Whether a democrat or republican is in office, the Patriot Act needs to be in force.
But, the real answer to your question is that the war on terror will end when the U.S. and its friends are no longer in fear of terrorism. It's going to be a long, long time. And, even a liberal/democrat president will want the Patriot Act in place. Never mind that they all play politics with the act right now. Whoever is in power will not be able to conduct the WOT without the Patriot Act.

Congress passed everything, the Senate is where all the drama queens were going at it.
I agree, they should have the Patriot Act agreed to before it comes up in 6 months and make a simple passage of it.
I figure the Democrats have seen Bush's fast rise in the polls while he was backing the Act, so watch the Dems not probably do this again beyond a day speeches in chambers to appease their kook base.

The deal, if passed by the GOP-controlled Senate...I think perhaps the thread title may be inaccurate? That story quoted was from "12 minutes ago".

Try to go do something as (formerly) simple as rent a PO Box, then get back to us about how good it is.Try taking an elevator to the top of the WTC to see the view.
