"It is an illegal strike - the law has been broken - what on earth are the Governor and Mayor thinking! "
They are thinking they would like those union political contributions.

And most of that 12% is in the public sector, IIRC, not the private.

I literally heard one bus driver compare his plight to the plight of Rosa Parks...I kid you not.

Are they still not New Yorkers or New Jerseyites -- i.e. Hillary supporters? They have been voting Democratic since the time of Moses.

That does sound like liberals to me -- we want unions! Until the very moment somebody other than "the rich" have to pay.

That's not true. The only people I've seen utter even grudging support for the union is other union thugs who think it might be a way for them to get a big slice of pie too.
I work in the finance industry and everyone I talk to ....EVERYONE is down on this union and unions in general.

Generally, the business people live outside the city. They are generally fiscally conservative. However, there are many, many public employees, all unionized, that live in NYC (most NYC employees are required to live in the city) and vote 'Rat. There are also assorted left-wing academics, socialists, welfare parasites, professional victims, homeless, illegal aliens and dead people that vote 'Rat each November. These people far outnumber the "working people" that are suffering most during this strike. When 'Rat politicians like Anthony Weiner appear at TWU rallies, it does not endear small business people to the 'Rats.

If you own a business that relies on public transit for its financial solvency, then these are the inherent risks you take simply by being in business.

They don't make the city run, as would be instantly obvious if you fired them all tomorrow and let others do their jobs. The only difference would be it wouldn't be shut down, and the city budget would be a bit more efficient.

I live in VA, so I'll have to bow to your on the scene knowledge (sound like you're up there), but... It seems to me any anti-union feelings you've seen are probably in direct response to this one incident. In other words, "I love unions! Unions are from God Almighty himself! Long live God and Unions!!! What! I have to walk to work today! Goddamn union!" Even most conservatives I know (the "shallow" type conservative who likes Bush, but thinks I'm crazy when I tell him that the rats have been dedicated to the absolute destruction of this country since at least 1950)support unions "generally." Even G. Gordon Liddy endorses their right to exist.

I wonder if the liberals of New York City would complain this loud if it was another city.
Lets see the unions are mostly supporters of the Dimorats
Get ready for more of this crap if the country gos stupid and elects a liberal to office.

I doubt seriously that the union votes a Republican politicians loses would amount to very few if any.
Unions vote primarily with the Dims.
Same with all these minority groups.

Don't worry. FR is full of morons who support these union scum. FR is full of Democrat Operatives inserting sly little counterarguments (which is fine, debate is good). But they run insidious campaigns to try to split Conservatives into two camps. They are a dying breed in the last desperate throes of their amoral, inconsequential party. Perhaps an alternate party will emerge from the Ashes of the Democrat party. Do not cry for them ,they are already dead!

Not in my industry, and 'Wall street' and the banking business dominates this town. No one has any guarantees for us and we all pretty much see the unions for what they are.... thugs.

Since all these vehicles are sitting idle, along with the subways....who is gaurding the parked buses and trains or cruising the tunnels watchin for 'bad guys'? They have Cops on "Fire Trains" run by supervisors.

There are thousands of people who would love the chance to drive a city bus, even as a temporary replacement worker, for some easy extra cash. No need to call in the NG under any circumstances.

I was in Manhatten last month and while riding the cab from Greenwich Village to the hotel and Penn Station/Madison Square Garden, I remarked that it seemed impossible for all the shops/businesses survive let alone thrive.
I don't care how many people live in NYC, how can delis and camera shops on every block survive? How can they afford the rent and payroll when there is a competitor every 200 feet?
