MISERABLE CROOKS DOING WHAT EVEN 9/11 COULDN'T
The New York Post ^ | 12/22/2005 | ANDREA PEYSER

THE 9/11 terror attacks couldn't kill his business. No, the villains threatening to rob Jay Park of his livelihood are far more treacherous, selfish and insane.

"It's dead — dead!" Park moaned from behind the counter of the ordinarily bustling Here and Now deli in Greenwich Village.

Just one shopper dawdled among the shelves, then left without buying anything. An array of fresh flowers wilted from lack of interest.

"We can't last a month like this," Park, the manager said. "In two weeks, we're going to be out of business."

All over the city, the horror stories were too painful to take. Stores opened late and closed early — or failed to unlock their doors at all.

Employees who'd walked since dawn to earn wages lower than those in the notoriously rude subway clerks' paychecks were confronted with shuttered businesses.

As the transit strike limped into its second day with no sanity in sight, the usual crowds deposited downtown each day via train and bus had all but evaporated.

Day three. These b@st@rds really are destroying the city. The people who are being hurt the most are the "working people" that Roger the Thug thinks he's fighting for.

Can't Mayor Bloomberg do to them what Reagan did to the Air Traffic Controllers when they went on strike? Fire all those that haven't crossed the picket line!

Break the union, fire all the workers, and jail union leaders.

This is nothing short of economic blackmail on massive scale. Unions have been doing this for decades, ever since they were taken over by the communists and organized crime scum. Unions destroy EVERY industry they organize, and every business that depends on their workers.

That's the union. $60K a year to drive a bus, full retirement at age 55 and free health care for life for themselves and families. And they will not accept a penny in change because the city forcast a surplus and they want their fare share (pun intended) since they make the city run.

Personally, the b@st@rds should be fired and the union leaders jailed.

Unions also facilitate the invasion of illegal aliens due to their extortion.

Break the commie bastards!

On other threads they're saying that the MTA is a quasi-public NY state agency and that the Mayor can't fire anybody there. I think only Gov. Pataki or the Board of Directors of the MTA.

You are correct. The MTA is a state authority. It is semi-autonomous. The governor appoints the president of the MTA.

If memory serves me correctly ,when Reagan fired the air traffic controllers he replaced them with military people who basically did the same job that controllers did only for the military.

Now I suppose the Governor could get National Guard drivers for the buses, but I doubt they could run the Subways, since the military doesnt have a subway. It might mean a few more accidents until the drivers became more competent and I am sure the liability would be great.Especially in a city as litigious as NY

Don't worry. FR is full of morons who support these union scum.

Stupidities I've seen retailed on FR over the past few days:

(1) It is OK for them to break state law because state law just isn't fair.

(2) The MTA forced them into the strike because the MTA made unreasonable demands.

(3) The subway is outmoded and nobody has any real use for it, so why are people complaining?

I find it hard to sympathize with ANYBODY suffering up there. There are maybe 1.25 people in the entire city (maybe a dog or cat, too) who are not slavishly devoted to EVERYTHING union. You want unions, you like unions, well, pay the price.

IF THE GOVERNOR DOES NOT GET SOME STONES, AND FIRE EVERY LAST ONE OF 'EM, HE SHOULD BE HELD PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERY DOLLAR LOST, EVERY BUSINESS THAT SINKS, AND EVERY JOB LOST, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

It is an illegal strike - the law has been broken - what on earth are the Governor and Mayor thinking! This strike is a heist from a union that should be disbanded and the powers that be aren't...........Does anyone run New York City other than the unions? Wait, I know the answer....................

Yup. Also recall the balls maggie thatcher showed in breaking union spine in Britain in lockstep with Reagan's actions.

1000 MTA employees decided not to join in their union's illegal strike. They are not enough to run all the subways but there are enough to train replacements in short order.

And contrary to the implication of your post, there were not as many military air traffic controllers as there were private air traffic controllers. There were enough military ones to form a skeleton crew and to train replacements.

If the MTA uses their loyal employees plus pays recent retirees a consulting fee to come in and help train, they could replace the existing workforce swiftly.

Also, the complexity of air traffic control compared to subway conducting is on an entirely different level.

There have been various cases where subway train enthusiasts (like the wannabe cops that you see elsewhere in the country) have dressed in MTA uniforms and illegally driven subway trains along their routes without the TWU workers realizing that they were impostors until hours later.

In each of those cases, passengers did not notice any difference in the quality of the service. One teenager was arrested multiple times for scamming his way into driving the A train (the subway with the longest route in the system).

It is an illegal strike - the law has been broken .....

Absolutely! The courts have called the union leaders in for an 11am hearing where they might be jailed.

The courts have more cojones than Pataki!!!!

Crooks is much to kind a word for what the strikers are doing to the city.

However, I find a small modicum of satisfaction in the lack of business for the Broadway shows.

When the Republican convention was coming to town they made a pronouncement that they didn't want republican business.
