No freaking kidding!!!!!!!!!!!! I have friends who are Jewish and their reaction to a crucifix is like Superman to cryptonite. I really don't get it. However, I think I actually do.
I think that many of the Jewish "leaders" fill the young ones with such distrust and such paranoia for these things that it actually develops into a nuerosis that can not be explaned but for any other reason. And when you question one about this, you get the most bizarre and illogical answers and responses.
Its divide and conquer, no different than any other political leader.
I grew up in a mixed family, Jews, Catholics and Prots. What a mess. I chose at 28 and glad I did.
I never would marry outside the faith.
Especially retelling stories about Cossacks in 1890 Russia decimating entire Jewish villages of all Jewish males over the age of 12, and raping their women, while carrying around large crosses. And other "stories" like that.
If that's true, I think their fears are over the top unless they lived through the Holocaust or something.
However, we wouldn't want to "make use of" a crucifix or have it hanging in our hospital room, etc. However, it is perfectly acceptable to be in the presence of Christians wearing them. That fear you describe is crazy. Would we want Christians to run screaming from a door that had a mezuzah affixed?

Well, I think that you don't know what they heck you're talking about. :)
Cryptonite is a good analogy. It has less to do with Jewish leaders filling young ones heads and more to do with the scriptures, however.
Everyday, observant Jews, restate G-ds Oneness by saying the Shema. Hear O Israel, the L-rd is our G-d, the L-rd is One.
So, the thought of a hybrid man-god, is the height of idolatry.
