"
idealists and desperate remained." Perhaps a better descriptive term would have been "determined."
Idealists are rarely in the forefront, preferring others to die, while desperate men would have long ago abandoned the cause.

What did Washington say to his men before crossing the Delaware?
"Men, get in the boat."

In Europe, news of Trenton devastated England and Germany, destroying public resolve for the war.
Hmmmm, sounds familiar. I guess with the MSM the more things change, the more they stay the same

When someone tells you they are not drunk, that means they are drunk.

The Dawn
The night is the darkest just before the dawn,
The dawn is just approaching.

Actually, I've been just assuming that everyone knew the British liberals wanted the Tories to lose that war. Jane Austen mentions this once in one of her books I believe. She didn't like liberals...not at all.
I recommend Jane Austen for all teenagers to read. Most famous authors who came after her were liberals until Ayn Rand.
But getting back to the British liberals stabbing the King and the Tories in the back. Does anyone have more concrete info on this? I understand that General Clinton, who garrisoned New York City and Long Island...was gay and liberal...and never really tried to defeat the Americans so much as just adequately keep New York City and Long Island safe from "terrorists" for the duration of the war, after which the British just left that area.

God bless drunk Germans. From the article:
Despite legends to the contrary, they were not celebrating nor drunk. These were professional soldiers, with iron discipline, they were ready and willing to fight.
Washingtons soldiers were incredibly brave, dare I say inspired by God, and motivated by love of the country that was to be?
Don't diminish their bravery by making the enemy smaller than he really was.

General Rall was at a Christmas party, I think it's safe to assume that any partying was being done by the Hessians and Tory's that night.... not to say they were all drunk...
God bless our troops THEN and NOW!

OOPS! I promoted Colonel Rall, and he may have been one of the few Hessians to drink that night (maybe why he didn't read the note).

" But not everyone's powder had been ruined and a Pennsylvania Rifleman fired a shot that struck Colonel Rall. In a moment the Hessian soldiers realized that their commander was seriously wounded and they lost their will to fight. As Rall's mortal wound seeped his life out, so did the Hessian resolve to continue the battle. " ....
Yes.. it was a appointment with destiny on that day, and thank GOD that, that Pennsylvania rifleman was at the right place at the right time, were GOD put him on that very day.
To the unknown Pennsylvania rifleman during the December 26, 1776 battle at Trenton New Jersey ? ?
We thank you for your decisiveness, bravery, quick thinking, and for doing the right thing at the right time..... all of us THANK YOU.
