Serial rape suspect caught (Shenandoah rapist)

A tip from a sharp-eyed civilian leads to the recapture Monday night of Reynaldo E. Rapalo, the man accused of being the 'Shenandoah rapist,' a week after escaping from jail using bedsheets.

Police on Monday night recaptured fugitive Reynaldo E. Rapalo, the man accused of being the ''Shenandoah rapist,'' almost a week after he used a rope fashioned from bedsheets to escape from a West Miami-Dade jail.

Rapalo, with a 5-o'clock shadow instead of a mustache and looking leaner, was nabbed at Bird Road and Southwest 67th Avenue, Miami-Dade police confirmed late Monday.

He was carrying a blade -- the same one police think he used last Tuesday night during his escape from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

According to police, someone coming out of the Winn-Dixie store in a strip mall on the southwest corner of the intersection called police and reported seeing a man looking a lot like Rapalo wearing street clothes.

A tactical narcotics team was in the area, composed of 16 personnel, and they immediately began the chase, said Miami-Dade Police Director Robert Parker.

Well, I'm glad these drug warriors had the courtesy to take a few hours from their busy day busting pot smokers to arrest a violent criminal.

They would have done the world a favor had they shot him trying to escape.

I read in one article that he was recognized outside of a video store--what was probably not reported is his large stash of pornography at home on his computer and in the videos in his hands.

Me too, even though somebody probably caught a buzz without paying taxes through the nose or abusing their insurance to get a prescription.
