I have been on the fence as to whether I want to see this movie or not.

I couldn't wait for LOTR because I read the books as a teenager and absolutely loved them! I had to re-read them all over again before during and after viewing the movies.

I am not a Catholic or even a Christian. From the discussions of Narnia in thie forum it seemed like this story just whacks you upside the head with its Christian allegory, whereas in LOTR it was there but very subtle.

Sorry you were disappointed.

I saw "Kingdom of Heaven" (the Orlando Bloom crusades movie) and I wish that I could get back those wasted 2 hours of my life. That movie was one giant vaccuum cleaner.

Do you like fantasy stories? It's definitely a kid's movie, but it's a good kid's movie.

They maybe should have toned down the violence because I do think the movie is aimed at younger kids 8-10. However, I enjoyed the movie. I enjoyed the books more as a kid, and then as an adult reading them to my son.

Actually, after reading some of the reviews and threads on FR I was surprised at it's lack of obvious religious inferences. They are very subtle in in the subtext (Lion gives life for others, resurrects and leads fight against evil). The only direct references are in "son of Adam, daughter of Eve".

I am not a Catholic or even a Christian.

I chatted once with a believer from a Jewish background who read the Narnia stories, found herself wishing that the universe could contain someone like Aslan ... and the rest is history. I also recommend the John Candy film Delerious as a terrific meditation on how the author of a story can insert himself into the story, and the implications of that insertion. Candy shows all the ways to do incarnation wrong -- with an ostentatious display that warps the characters of the characters, forcing them to act out of character.

I agree. That movie stunk. I felt like I needed a degree in the history middle ages to keep up with the nuances in the plot.

I don't know what's worse , denying myself to see Kingdom of Heaven or seeing it and walking away even more dissapointed than had I never saw it.

A Kerryesque flip flop wouldn't you say/

Many biblical characters are allegoried as well as the fight of good and evil, the resuurection of the dead and Purgatory.
