I understand that Aliens was declared "Culturally Significant" by an act of Congress, and that some movie bigwig person (forgot who) declared it "the best pure action movie ever."

Alien fell more squarely into the "horror" genre than Aliens did; it was more of a backing-up-into-a-dark-hallway kind of movie than Aliens was. The second was more action than horror.

I'd agree with you on "Aliens" as all-time best action flick...

But the best all time horror flick for me has to be "The Ring". If you watched it for the first time...alone...with the lights out. Woof. I don't scare easy but that one got to me.

Yep. Aliens rocked! That's another one I've watched 3 or 4 times this year on DVD.

I thought it was really good, but more an action movie than horror. On the other hand, the first one, Alien, was the scariest movie I ever sat though, more than The Omen or The Exorcist, which had been #1 and #2 for me, at the time.

The tension from Alien was unrelenting. And it helped to see it on the big screen, in the dark!

Yeah well I went to see Wolf Creek, talk about one scarey movie. Pretty bad when the audience is saying Kill him at the movie screan. The reeeealy scarey thing is it's a true story and the killer is still somewhere in the OutBack of Australia. Absolutely bueatiful photography. The photog was a Gibson. Wonder if he is Mel's son?
