AND 10. When his nation called for service during Vietnam, he didn't hide in an air national guard unit, he didn't attend parties that featured illegal drugs, he didn't shirk scheduled ANG drills to support Alabama politial buddies, and he didn't get convicted for DUI...

I was cheering your reply until you got to #10. What are you talking about??? Is Mary Mapes your source for that? I agree McCain is a war hero, but that was a low blow don't ya think? The Air National Guard saw a lot of action in Vietnam. There were no guarantees Bush would avoid the war by signing up.

Facts are facts...back in the '60s, when he was counted on to provide an air defense role for his country during the peak of the Cold War, Bush transferred from the Texas ANG to the Alabama ANG to aid an Alabama Republican (forget who it was) in his gubernatorial bid. In doing so, he shirked his drills as a Texas Guard pilot as the 'Bama ANG was ground support unit. I am a retired member of the Navy Reserve and vividly recall a period when my work required me to be temporarily transferred to another state for a period of seven months...guess what, the Navy did not allow my transfer to the other state's reserve unit as my military specialty was deemed critical to the unit I was in (requiring me to fly back at considerable personal expense) so I am "curious" to learn how Bush was able to accomplish his nearly two-year absence from his Texas unit?
