I'm happily married, not alone, and Christmas remains the internal infernal of old. I'd say Dictionary.com nailed it for many. Flame away.
If they want to be cute-sy, that is their own lookout. People will stop using them as a reference if they insist on doing so, however.
Everybody knows what "inferno" means, so this is harmless fun. But if I were to look up a word I don't know, I would have to wonder if they were fooling around on that one too.
www.merriamwebster.com works fine for me, and the definitions come right out of the authoritative M-W Dictionary. Why would anybody bother with dictionary.com?
