The crazy person is talking about history and there's nothing wrong with the assignment as far as I'm concerned. What next- kids can opt out of reading the Diary of Anne Frank or anything about the Holocaust because it infringes on their religious freedom? As another poster pointed out, the Diary has less to do with being Jewish than it does with the persecution and suffering under Nazi occupation.
Why do teachers assume kids are so ignorant that the only way to understand a topic or feel empathy is to reenact the moment? Realize this same lesson in understanding persecution could be extended to other religions and political ideas. Who would want their kid parading about with a rainbow-gay logo, hammer/sickle, swastika, crescent, devil/pentagram? Or which non-Christian, would want to forced to wear a crucifix or cross about his neck?
I find it disturbing, that under the guise of teaching, a student should be coerced into displaying others' religious symbols. What Freeper would find it acceptable to walk about as an ASS for the day in a Dimmocrat-Donkey shirt? Or even better, be forced to carry a Whitehouse return Hill/Bill 2008 placard?
A liberal teacher, aiming at emotions over knowledge. Then they use emotions to guide the kids to liberism.
Perhaps I wasn't specific enough. My problem stems with the yellow star of david that she asked the children to wear as well as the fact that she gave lower grades to children who opted not to indulge this teacher in her bizarre - no very bizarre- class assignment. Everyone should learn all about the Holocaust - my note was not directed toward that.
