Gabler's Complaint: Media's Iraq Coverage Not Negative Enough

I can now confirm what I've long suspected: Neal Gabler and I inhabit different planets.

I inhabit the one in which the MSM coverage of the Iraqi war is a virtually-uninterrupted drumbeat of the negative. From headline coverage of every IED that goes off, to the beatification of Cindy Sheehan, the liberal media's treatment of the war has been decidedly downbeat.

Neal Gabler, on this evening's Fox Media Watch, looked at the same coverage and complained that the MSM . . . has not been negative enough. He began his plaint with a bizarre and distasteful analogy, suggesting that if the media had covered JFK's assassination in the same manner they cover Iraq, they would have reported "President Kennedy dead; everyone else OK."

Gabler's evidence in support of his media-as-Pollyanna charge? An article by liberal's liberal James Fallows in the Atlantic magazine asking why the Iraqi army hasn't been trained more quickly, his own question as to why there aren't more oil revenues, and a wringing of hands at the prospect of democracy in Iraq bringing a theocracy to power. As if, Fallows and Gabler aside, we haven't been barraged daily by Iraqi doom-and-gloom courtesy the NY Times/NBC-ABC-CBS/CNN etc. ad nauseum?

When does the New Year arrive on Jupiter, Neal? And does it usher in 2006, or the Age of Aquarius?

Thanks for the ping. Gabler's asinine analogy is a tremendous insight into his irrational mind.

Anbd it's a damned shame that gabler's has an atmosphere.

He is probably THE least-watchable on FauX. At least with Blo'Reilly and Gerta you can turn-off the sound and do your own dialog to the pictures.

Bump. I was going back and forth between this and the sanctimonious Law & Order Marathon. I thought Gabler was gone from this show. Oh well it will probably be on at 6:30AM tomorrow.

I'm not a twit. I'm T'wit. Gabler isn't a twit either. Gabler is putrescence oozing from the anterior aperture of a diseased water buffalo.

You know I think the world of you and look forward to your analysis on the MSM, but...

I ask the same questions.

Why hasn't the Iraqi army been trained more quickly?

Why haven't there been an increase in Iraqi oil revenue to offset the tremendous costs incurred by our country. Unless Iraq is becoming the 51st state, we should't be doing this gratis.

As far as the fear of theocratic government germinating there, that does make it hard to argue our fine soldiers are dying for a just cause.

I'm with that senator that recently suggested Iraq be split up among the different sects.

I believe it was necessary to remove Hussein, but I also believe we did it to stablize the region and keep the oil taps open.

I would rather read these questions and answers in the MSM instead of the incessant attack on the administration with trumped up scandals. Wouldn't you too?

And Happy New Year to you and yours! ;^)

I think you're being unfair to Pinkerton.

Not only did he very ably zap Gabler today, he pulled a brilliant 'gotcha' on Ellen Ratner a few weeks ago:

I used to love to watch that program, but recently it's become obvious that most of the panel is woefully ignorant. Jane went on and on today about armor and funds (is she really that oblivious?) and Neal warned about a religious fanatic taking over Iraq (a la Iran). Don't these people ever bother to read? Sistani is diametrically opposed to the Iranian school of Shiiaism and most of the Iraqi Shiia follow Sistani. Only Sadar and his tiny fraction of followers fit in with Iranian style rule.

Those defending the Iraq policy were weak on facts and really brought nothing to the arguement.

What really frightens me is that Jane is attached to a university. This ignorant woman is teaching the young?

He knows he's distorting the truth, he's trying to make people believe what he says implies the MSM was overly fair and balanced. What a crock!

I didn't see the show but maybe he liked to see the insane hatred toward Bush stop and ask his foregoing questions...

At least report and do documentaries or something on the progress of the Iraqi military in being to police themselves.

There should be sufficient numbers trained to protect the flow of oil out of Iraq.

If there isn't don't you want to know why?

Happy New Year, YaYa.
