Has anyone actually seen this movie? Good God, no! I won't even watch the commercial; whenever it comes on I flip channel asap.

"They've gone and killed John Wayne with this movie," They may not succeed but this is indeed the purpose of the movie--to deconstruct an icon of the white male hegemony. As I understand it, the movie actually is not about cowboys at all but sheep-herders. Yet the persistence of this distortion to "cowboy" in the media is proof that the movie's agenda is to target the image of the free, masculine, independent American man.
Another way of putting it, for gutsier freepers is, the Hollywoodies want to castrate George Bush and this movie is as close as they can get.

Oscars, Golden Globe Awards, Pulitzers, Nobel Peace Prize...all thoroughly discredited by the moral lepers of the left.

Gunnery Sergeant Axel Foley, as played by Louis Gossett, Jr., in "Officer and a Gentlemen". The Gunny is in the process of berating Sid Worley (David Keith) for calling him "you":
"Where are you from...Oklahoma? Only two things come out of Oklahoma - steers and queers. Which one are you, boy? I don't see no horns on you, so you must be a queer!"

Emil Foley, sorry. Axel was Eddie Murphy and another movie at that.

I have a film project that I am working on. I would like to raise funds from Free Republic members to distribute the film.
The film is about two hairstylists in San Francisco. The edgy thing about the film is that they are: male and female, married (to each other), and they are (gasp) straight (normal).
The film follows their struggle as outcasts, and their of their pain of being rejected.
The film also delves into the bizarre network of people that they associate with. There are Bob & Alice; a married heterosexual couple who run a floral shop in the Cole Valley area of San Francisco. Jim and Diane, (again, heterosexual and married) who own a trendy restaurant in Sausalito.

I haven't watched that movie in a long time. With children and teenagers in the house, I don't like having sex scenes on, and I've torqued down on what I allow myself to watch, too.
I believe I first heard that "steers and queers" line in military school in Claremore circa 1964. Since then, I've heard it about a number of states.

Hell no. But the closest I've gotten was (being forced!) to watch a trailer before Harry Potter started. I'm in Asia right now and being out of the country it REALLY sinks in how much Hollywood soils our reputation day in and day out around the world.
The Asians won't know how ridiculous the idea for this movie is, so during the trailer they were muttering like "Ewwwwww", and "Ah ha, so that's what cowboys are secretly like". I was deeply embarrassed.
Being overseas I've seen many scenes which most of us in America hate, like a white man looking stupid, or getting slapped around, or getting laughed at, or failing, or looking weak or looking cowardly. Foreigners really believe in these images. It's very damaging, especially the appearance that we're all so weak.
When these things are shown in a foreign country (and make no mistake, our movies are the mainstay everywhere), there's no one around to counter the deceitful images so foreigners are left with strong, incorrect impressions. Hollywood can't decline fast enough.

"John Wayne was a liberal." Not really.
"I have found a certain type calls himself a Liberal...Now I always thought I was a Liberal. I came up terribly surprised one time when I found out that I was a Right-Wing Conservative Extremist, when I listened to everybody's point of view that I ever met, and then decided how I should feel. But this so-called new Liberal group, Jesus, they never listen to your point of view..."
