This is obviously a word play on the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by Steyn. An excellent way of reflecting things in Canada, and a sobering reminder to all of us that the Left's chance of victory in Canada is at least 77%.
This has several ramifications for us. Australia, take your sister dominion as a negative example, America, know thy enemy, and everyone living from Victoria to Winnipeg, time to organize independence movements.

I'm sure it makes more sense to Canadians, but it's still funny with half the jokes unintelligible!

To brave young Stephen, he hands a shield ramped with a red lion and a sword the colour of silver with a hilt of bright gold. To Monte he gives a bow and a quiverful of arrows, and to Diane a dagger. Clearly an arms smuggler from the U.S. Book 'em.

Makes you wish you really knew all the players he's alluding
to. Steyn what a writer.

So the election is lost already, huh? Geez, no point in voting then. Actually, I'll wait until Jan 24 before I sign off.

'time to organize independence movements'
I agree. So do
these folks. The Sons of Preston is a nice touch, almost a Steyn hallmark. And, yes there are a whole lot of funny nooks and crannies of relevance in that sad tale that will escape readers unfamiliar with Canadian references. Mark Steyn is brilliant. Ontario, the electorate, faces a stark choice: Reward the The Liberal Party of Canada with anything but a resounding defeat, or lose the West.

Unfortunately for Canada, it's national identity is dependent upon differentiating itself from the US. That means that it will have to be run by unbelievably incompetent, crooked, and hateful liberals.

Put a corrupt cheating monkey to head the Liberals and they will still win up here...
By the way, I saw the Chronicles Of Sarnia this weekend and I have a question:
When the Queen was about to kill the lion, did she say "appease today and die tomorrow" ???
Or did I understand correctly???

Hilarious. One of Mark Steyn's best borrowings from a classic work. He deftly sketches everything that's wrong with Canada and why Canadians fear change. Oddly enough, its Leftists that are today's reactionaries.

the Left's chance of victory in Canada is at least 77%. No offence NZ, I like you, but you really should become more knowledgable on this subject before you post stuff. You don't live in Canada, and all you know is what you see in the press.

"Sister Dominion?"
What utter bullshit!
Australia is about as closely related to Canada as is the United States to Inner Mongolia.
Only place in your part of the world that comes close to being comparible to Canada is the palce you're sitting on - and only then because you and other Johnny-come-lately immigrant-idiots are there. And even then, except in its innane bloody attitudes, New Zealand more closely represents, say, Prince Edward Island, than Canadastan as a whole.
Does your mother let you out by yourself?
I pray not for your sake.
For your absolute bloody ignorance of the world is exceeded only by your colossal ego and stupendous arrogance!
