JFK Jr. and Sonny Bono are two people who died who had a real chance to become president.

Surely Yo Yo Ma could be worked into the mix somewhere.

Re your post #39 - You have a valid point, too. But, sometimes people really do change over the years, in major and unexpected ways. I can think of at least one person I would have (and could have) married, but, now, seeing how much he has changed, I am VERY glad we did not marry.
Also, speaking of Hollywood, as you did in your previous post -- I thought it was quite tasteful, under the circumstances, how the Hollywood actor Mike Myers recently characterized his divorce: he and former wife remain "committed friends" according to press releases.
Connie Mack should take a clue from Mike Myers -- and publish something like that, if true, on his official web site, ie: "Congressman Mack and his former wife, (her name), the mother of his two children, remain committed friends" or something. Otherwise, her major contribution to the birth of these two kids goes totally unrecognized by Connie Mack in his official life story. Not good for a politician who wants to continue winning over female voters!

Sonny Bono was such a practical, sensible non-political naive politican. He woke up on day in Bedlam - Congress.

Sonny Bono really could have become president. He was a modern day Horatio Alger and appealed to many kinds of voters, across political lines. And his entrance into politics was based on authentic experiences he had as a small business owner / restuarant owner. Few politicians are like that.

Connie and Mary. It sounds so modern. Their first child could be Mannie, whether boy or girl.

I meant to ping you on my post #46. I don't know about JFK -- he seemed to have a ton of problems with his marriage, too, as tabloids continue to report to this day.

What made Sonny so great is even though he was a hardcore conservative, he was so likable no one could demonize him. He was extremely charismatic and very effective in communicating conservatism. He was Reaganesque.
To: Always Right
Yes, he was. And, wow, what name recognition! :)

*So be it! Let us not forget the spirit of Sonny Bono.

I meant to ping you on my post #46. I don't know about JFK -- he seemed to have a ton of problems with his marriage, too, as tabloids continue to report to this day. JFK Jr. had the looks and the name. He also tended to be more conservative than most democrats so he could appeal to the center. Once he matured he could have become president anytime he wanted, IMHO. See post 51 about Sonny.

*Sonny Bono was truly a representative citizen politician, NOT a career demagoguerial politician.

And gave her a job in Congress when he died. That's sick.Only in politics can a wife take over a job like that. That explains why the Ford family is out of the Ford Motor Company, the Disneys are out of Disney, and the duPonts are out of E.I. duPont, right?
It's a vote for "stay the course." The wife is assumed to be sympatico with the hubby's views, and to share the same advisors. And it's not like Mary Bono was handed the seat; she had to win an election.
To: the tongue
She earned her seat in Congress.
"In 2004, Congresswoman Mary Bono resoundingly swept the 45th District Congressional election with a 67 percent majority, earning her fourth term in office. Congresswoman Bono was first elected to Congress in 1998, after a special election was held to fill the seat left vacant by her late husband, Sonny Bono. "

We ate at his restaurant in Palm Springs when he was the mayor there. Mary worked there to IIRC. He seemed very nice and personable.
