I missed it, but apparantly it's an "old brag." The first blockquote below is against the Patriot Act in general - don't shoot me, I'm just the messanger.
In its Field Report the DOJ points to the use of this new authority in the investigation of crimes committed over the Internet. These successes, however, have had nothing to do with terrorism. For example, the Report provides specific examples of section 210's use in two large scale child pornography investigations, one large scale international child molester ring investigation, a "Colombine-like" attack investigation, and a child abduction investigation. While the government observes that eliminating the need for a search warrant assisted in the speedy identification of these perpetrators, the Field Report does not provide a single example of the use of these devices in combating terrorism, the purpose for which Congress granted DOJ these powers. Here is a link to "The Field Report," a July 2004 document prepared by the DoJ that specifically describes numerous successful uses of the PATRIOT Act. The child molester ring item and similar begins on page 19 of the report ...http://www.choate.com/file/pdf/publications/usa_patriot_act2.pdf
A report from the U.S. Justice Department this week [July 14, 2004] said the Patriot Act helped authorities bring down suspected child molester Terry Adkins and his wife. In May, a federal judge sentenced Terry Adkins, 26, to 75 years in prison. Jane Adkins, 34, was sentenced to 30 years.http://blog.watchright.com/index.php?itemid=177

Right. But there's still no real and immediate accountability.
For example, if I run into the server room and trip over the cables (thereby causing hundreds of coworkers to lose their work), I should be hauled in front of my boss's boss for the traditional verbal caning.
If I do something wrong deliberately with serious consequences then I should be fired. Not in 6 months or a year, but on the spot.
It doesn't happen in Congress. So as much as I love Thomas Sowell, I really think that we would continue to get what we already have in politicians (as there never is "too much" money, even among Dems), only it would be worse.
LOL!
Nope. This is the whole problem on the Right. Never seem able to actually focus on the REAL guilty parties. Instead they want to take a chain saw to the whole system. Wrong answer. HOLD people accountable for THEIR actions. Blaming everyone allows the real guilty ones to get away with it.
:-)
Good catch Cboldt.

DoJ "Report from the Field" I also linked to it a couple posts above ...
This was yesterday. They claimed they got a child molester in Virginia. I know I saw it yesterday because the wife and I disagreed about it.
I am more libertarian than her. SHe said it was ok since it got a childmolester and I argued that we should just set up web cams on everyone so they can monitor all of us and they will catch a whole lot more.
How about "Dewey Defeats Truman?"
I took it to mean that if the entire Congress were found to be guilty. I don't think anyone here wants to pillory anyone.
Please don't confuse the on-air person with the actual efforts of an entire news staff. Anderson doesn't travel alone...Geraldo doesn't travel alone...even if that's the picture they want to present. I have never known a breaking news team to be "lethargic."
Again...I am making a clear distinction about breaking news.
Yes, that was my understanding. Unfortunately, a lot of these politicians are crooks at heart.
I don't know if increasing the pay would really deliver better people. You could never get term limits through at any rate.
My Congressman told us in 1994 that if he wins election, he will term limit himself after five terms.
Guess what?
He is running again this year for his seventh term and has proved himself to be a lair, period.
I will not cast my vote for him, but he is guaranteed to win. No challenger.
Thanks.
LOL! And I do love reading about how whatever plans of theirs had failed had been because of some plan by Karl Rove (evil genius).
LOL!
On the other hand, it is upsetting when I listen to the talking heads and hear the condescension (naturally pointed at we great unwashed). It's pretty disgusting.
FReepers had the "woman marries dolphin" story at 6 AM on 12/30/05....
We actually had Jim DeMint and Inglis from SC honor their term limit pledges.
