Reid, Ensign show no worry (Reid says as far as he knows he never met the man)

Nevada's senators distanced themselves Tuesday from lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to charges of influence peddling while agreeing to give authorities information for a widening corruption probe of Congress.

Sens. Harry Reid and John Ensign said neither they nor their aides have been questioned nor contacted by Justice Department investigators digging into allegations that Abramoff steered campaign donations and expensive perks to lawmakers in exchange for official acts.

Neither Senator Reid nor anyone on staff is under investigation or has received any notice" from prosecutors, Reid spokeswoman Tessa Hafen said.

Reid said at a news conference in Carson City that he has "not a thing" to be worried about as far as Abramoff. "I've never been in the same room with the man as far as I know," he said.

Reid, a Democrat, and Ensign, a Republican, were linked to the lobbyist in a news report in November that focused on a letter they wrote on March 5, 2002, to Interior Secretary Gale Norton.

It depends on your definition of "in the same room".

"I've never been in the same room with the man as far as I know," he said.

Does this depend on what the meaning of 'is' is?

Reid may, or may not, remember getting $68K from Abramoff--a politician can only remember but so much when it comes to contributions (think: AlGore getting $5K from a Buddhist monk?)--but Reid KNOWS which political party the MSM will neglect to mention in the coming coverage. THAT's why he's not too worried.

I know. You're correct.

But at least I feel good that you and I know it now.... it'll come out eventually, just not as fast and/or as furious as I would like.....

When you steal, scam, and skim from enough people, as Dingy Harry Reid has done, (you can look it up), it's hard to remember them all, especially when you develop selective senility, as Harry is doing.

Ask if his sons' people have been in the same room with Abramoff's people. Thats a little more to the point. In the modern world, graft is handled through lobbyists who happen to be in the fam. Think Daschle and his wife; think Reid and his kids.

Its more or less legal in a world where prosecutions are more or less political.

To be fair, Reid didn't get $68,000 from Abramoff, he got $68,000 from Indian tribes that were clients of Abramoff. But that distinction didn't seem to help all of the Republicans getting slandered by the media for having received donations from Abramoff's Indian tribes.
