If you want to read a book about the life of a child in the Soviet Union during WWII then you might consider, "The Painted Bird" by Jerzey Kosinski.

It will haunt you the rest of your life.

One of the most disturbing books I ever read. I won't go near that author ever again.

Well, considering the context of this thread, I will stay away from said book. The only thing in life to really disturb me is things that involved children.

I've heard that Kosinski has been exposed as a complete liar and the Painted Bird is fiction. If you look him up on wikipedia they have the details. He was a good actor in Reds.
