"Scottsdale Community College in Arizona was wise to adopt the nickname ``Fighting Artichokes.'' There is no grievance group representing the lacerated feelings of artichokes. Yet."

There is no grievance group representing the lacerated feelings of artichokes.

Sounds like we better start one up!

But grievance groups have multiplied, seeking reparations for historic wrongs, and regulations to assuage current injuries inflicted by ``insensitivity.'' One of America's booming businesses is the indignation industry that manufactures the synthetic outrage needed to fuel identity politics.

Soooooo true and funny too!

You know, it's good to see that everything under the oversight of the NCAA is going so well, that they have time to pursue such trivial issues.

They should all just adopt the Nike "Swoosh" as mascots.

Oh well, who cares if they stop honoring dead old Indians by naming teams after them. I mean, I suppose the reason college teams picked up on the Indian names to inspire a "warrior" image to their teams, or something.

Of course, the Indians lost, so that's like trying to name your teams after famous French war heroes.

I think some college should take on the moniker "The Fighting Cowpunchers"

Would be great for a midwestern school.

As an "American of Irish decent," I grew up cheering for Notre Dame (Fighting Irish) and the Boston Celtics. If I was an Indian (Native American), I would probably cheer for the school that used my tribe as their mascot. These losers need to get a life!

I would love to see a website which compiled a list and hosted a discussion of the offended busybodies.

In fact, wouldn't that be a good team name?

The "Berkley Offended Busybodies"... it has a certain cachet, no?
