ABC News Freudian Slip

Read this quote from the article:

"Gingrich was one of the primary architects of the GOP takeover of Congress in 1994, when Republicans swept into office in part by promising to rid Capitol Hill of Democratic corruption. Bush first campaigned for the White House as an outsider, too, promising to restore honor and integrity to the office, though he himself was ultimately ousted in part over an ethics scandal."

Great catch. I just called ABCnews.com regarding this and I told the guy who answered the phone that ABCnews bias is so obvious. He said after a minute of research that it is really embarrassing for them to publish something like that.

They have since corrected the sentence in question to read "Gingrich", not "Bush". Perhaps Rush will mention it.

Alert: They've fixed it.

It took them half an hour and they only fixed it because of your email. This is evidence that no one in the entire ABC News organization reads FR. If I had posted on DailyKos, it would have been corrected in 5 minutes.

The "he" they're referring to that got "ousted" is meant to refer to Gingrich, not Bush.

What you are saying would only be correct if the subject of the sentence was meant to be Gingrich, and if he ever ran for the White House and got ousted from that position, which he obviously never did.

Reread it:

Bush first campaigned for the White House as an outsider, too, promising to restore honor and integrity to the office, though he himself was ultimately ousted in part over an ethics scandal."

From Wikipedia:

"At the end of the year (1997), the Republicans expected big gains from the 1998 Congressional elections. In fact, Gingrich had predicted a 30-seat Republican pickup. Instead, the Republicans lost five seats—the poorest results in 34 years for any party not in control of the White House. Gingrich took most of the blame for the defeat. Amid threats of a rebellion in his caucus, he announced that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. He had been elected to an 11th term in that election, but declined to take his seat."

He was not ousted, he stepped down; generally considered a reasonable and an honorable option when faced with foolish opposition.

Despite that they fixed it, you should send it to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. This so obvious extreme bias, delusions, and hate toward President Bush must be exposed. if you do not want to send it, I will do so, but you have the priority to do so because you first found about it.

still don't make sense.
When did Gingrich run for president ? as an outsider ? he wasn't ousted because of ethics violations. He resigned. (probably about 5 minutes ahead of the posse)

The displacement of subject is what makes it a badly constructed sentence.

Some others in the thread have said that they have done so already. Feel free to do so too if you would like.

I know he was not ousted. But liberals would still write it that way, as this writer did.

That's why I put it in quotes, to illustrate the sentence construction, not the veracity of it.

while on the abc story web-site, you could go into "File" on your browser menu and do a "save as".

course, if you use it later, you'd be accused of manipulating the document.
