It's not suprising, is it? I went to Robert E. Lee High School and they finally made the symbols vanish. First, the Mad Rebel, then the Confederate flag.
If that's the way they felt about it, then they should have made a national ruling that none of the confederate presidents or generals names should be on any of the schools. Lee is no more and no less a symbol of the Confederacy than the flag. And Lincoln actually did the Blacks no favor when he 'freed' them so they could work in the northern industrial explosion! "And Lincoln actually did the Blacks no favor when he 'freed' them so they could work in the northern industrial explosion!" So you think the slaves would have rather continued to work for free vs earning a paycheck? You can't be that ignorant. Reasoning like that would make Saddam proud.

Lee was a great general, a man of integrity, and man of character, a devote Christian, beloved by those who served under him, and the most one can say about his "political" leanings, he was a loyal Virginian. Frankly, I consider Lee to be a great American, period.

If that's the way they felt about it, then they should have made a national ruling that none of the confederate presidents or generals names should be on any of the schools. Lee is no more and no less a symbol of the Confederacy than the flag. They also shouldn't have named Army posts after Confederates. Ft. Lee, Ft. Hood, Ft. Bragg, to name just a few.
