At least they aren't wearing MOPP suits out on patrol. That would really suck.

According to our son who served in Iraq, it's hell.

Hot! Regarding armor, my son was a scout platoon leader in Baghdad the first year of the war. He saw an IED blow the turret off of an MI tank. Never put much faith in armor after that. Their unit took the doors off of the Humvees, giving them a better field of fire. The best defense is a good offense.

Just imagine working in dry-cleaner's steam room on a humid July afternoon, while wearing a wool sweater under a heavy leather bomber jacket with all the pockets filled with sand.

Just stick ice in a container under a towel and that would get rid of the heat... yes, for an extra weight.

It sucks. Trust me on that one. And I just had to wear the Class III vest with SAAPI inserts.

I worked civilian security in Iraq and we did not wear all that armor the troops have to wear plus their other weapons and gear. It got above 120 degrees and I thought i was going to die. I have always admired the ability of our soldiers and Marines to be able to move and fight in all the crap they have to wear.

It's not fun. And I wasn't even in combat, wearing that stuff, in 120 degree heat.
