Breaking: Kingston Endorses Blunt for Majority Leader
Red State ^ | 1/9/05 | Blanton

Posted on 01/09/2006 9:33:37 AM PST by Pop Fly

Multiple people on the Hill tell me that Blunt is in the lead. Those who are whipping for him are getting good feedback. As an added attraction, if Blunt goes into the majority leader position, it opens up the majority whip position, which a number of representatives are interested in. The desire to be majority whip increases Blunt's vote margin for majority leader by those who want to be whip.

Update [2006-1-9 11:52:38 by Blanton]: We hear now that Congressman Jack Kingston will be endorsing Roy Blunt. Kingston is close to DeLay and a Vice Chairman of the Republican Conference. Now if only Kingston would challenge Pryce.

So according to Red State, Jack Kingston is endorsing Roy Blunt for Majority Leader. It seems like both the big guns and most of the foot soldiers are lining up behind Blunt. This race could be over before it even really began.

Is Blunt a headbanging conservative?

Blunt's a good guy, hard-nosed, conservative, but perhaps a little too happy with business as usual for my taste. All in all a good choice though.

I am shocked that this post was as low as #4.

He's married to a lobbyiest. Got caught trying to help her company in the middle of the night bill hanky-panky. He is the absolute WORST choice the Republicans could possible make. He is the poster boy for the culture of corruption.

With Pence having bowed out, the choice is between Blunt and Boehner.

Blunt is advocating lobbying reforms along with Hastert, but Boehner said on Fox News Sunday that he doesn't think new reform rules are necessary.

That doesn't seem like a very smart position to take when we're being hammered on lobbying scandals and corruption issues. At least Blunt is advocating reform to clean up the culture of corruption.

Mark this: as soon as Blunt is installed as leader, Big Media will attack him with both barrels - and they've got the amunition. The Republicans will be left standing there going "Hamina hamin hamina...."

I disagree. Not only has Blunt been reelected a number of times now, but "Big Media" did nothing during his campaigns, nothing during his appointment to Maj Whip and nothing when he ascended to interim Leader.

I think it's a touch of paranoia on your part if you ask me.
