SACRAMENTO - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled his proposed 2006-07 state budget today, calling for large increases in education and transportation funding, while relying heavily on an increase in income tax revenue to cover a $6.3 billion spending gap.
The governor is proposing a $125.6 billion spending plan, which is a 7 percent boost over last year.
"California is now on the road to both economic recovery and fiscal stability," the governor said in his budget statement. "We balanced the budget without raising taxes and record revenues are flowing into our treasury. We still have work to do to eliminate the structural budget deficit."
The governor vowed not to raise taxes, while paying back billions owed to education and transportation -- money that was borrowed to cover past budget deficits -- and building the state's reserve.

Only a 7% increase. wow.
This number will grow, it has the last 2 years.
That's ok, It's normal. ;-)

Balanced? $125.6 Billion in spending while total revenues are projected at $116.1 Billion. Yep. There is still work to do. Reducing spending would be a good place to start.
