Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy Had Racial Covenants

It's particularly ironic that Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee would try to smear Samuel Alito as racist for his 1980s membership in a Princeton organization that was against affirmative action - especially given the backgrounds of Alito's leading critics on the Committee.

In fact, Senators Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden have some significant exposure of their own on the racial sensitivity front, given the fact that both their families owned homes that were restricted by "racial covenants" from being sold to blacks, Jews or other minorities.

The startling news emerged in 1986, during confirmation hearings for the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Back then, Democrats were in the midst of skewering Rehnquist as a racist because a deed on a home he once owned had a racial covenant.

But the tables were turned when Republicans on the Committee learned that both Kennedy and Biden's families owned property with the same kind of racial restrictions.

United Press International picked up the story, reporting at the time: "The parents of Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., own a home in Wilmington, Del., that has an old deed prohibiting sale or occupancy by blacks."

Biden insisted that neither he nor his parents knew about the racist restriction. The Delaware Democrat announced that when his family found out they took immediate legal action to reverse what he called the "morally repugnant" agreement.

What's the old saying? "Do as I say, not as I do."

Imagine, making Mrs. Alito cry during the hearings by badgering her husband. And to what end? To show what an evil person Judge Alito is? How dreadful and shameless.

The hearings should prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, that the Democrats have virtually nothing to bring to the political table - except whining.

Putzes.

PAPER: Sen. Kennedy was member of all-male club
Wed Jan 11 2006 22:40:10 ET

Conservative activists are eager to point out that Sen Ted Kennedy was on shaky ground accusing the Judge Alito of associating with people opposed to the inclusion of women in private institutions, the WASHINGTON TIMES is fronting on Thursday.

The eight-term senator belonged to an all-male social club -- the Owl -- at Harvard University. The Owl refused to admit women until it was forced to do so during the 1980s, according to records kept by the HARVARD CRIMSON, the student newspaper.

A Kennedy spokeswoman said it was an entirely different matter.

"No one can question Senator Kennedy's commitment to equality, justice and civil rights," said Laura Capps. "What he was part of was a social club, not a radical group pushing a radical agenda."

Anyway, she said, even though women were admitted to the university during Mr. Kennedy's tenure, they weren't fully integrated to the campus until much later.

Developing...

"Yuk, Biden stepped in his own $hit."

He always does that. There's a permanent stench of dung surrounding him.

Yup. They're probably positing that Mrs. Alito put on a crying show to take the heat off of her husband.

So it's okay when Biden and Kennedy own property that excludes blacks, but not okay when a Republican does something deemed racially insensitive. Well, as long as we know the rules :-)

Palm Beach, Florida, has been the winter home of the Kennedy clan for many decades. At one time, Palm Beach was notorious for having restrictions against Jews and nonwhites in their country clubs. It may well be that Ted Kennedy or his family were members of such clubs. Given the family's arrogance, they likely felt no need to drop out or apologize.

And Biden claims to be a Catholic but he is for abortion and one cannot stay in the church and be for abortion, there is NO way that one can be a Catholic and support abortion.

I first realized that I was conservative during the Bork hearings. I remember a particular line of questioning, from Senator Kennedy that drove me away from liberalism. Senator Kennedy held Mr. Bork responsible for a racial convenant in the deed of his house.

I found that to be grossly unfair then and now we learn, he and his family had one too. I can't say that I'm surprised, but it does, at times, amaze me the depths of hypocrisy Mr. Kennedy will sink to win a policical battle. Mr. Kennedy has proven time and time again that there is nothing that he will not say or do to win. Legality and morality are not barriers for him. They're not even a consideration. Political power is all that matters to him.

Anyway we can get a copy of this deed?

"Senators, Have you no shame?"

Yes, but that's different.

As sitting senators of the dim persuasion, they have mastered ignoring their own conduct while freely judging the ethics/morality of others.

Or these guys rule when it comes to talking the talk.

Here are some samples of DU reactions (it should be noted that there are multiple threads about Mrs. Alito but a "bug" seems to be affecting most of them so they can't be opened):

1. Couric "Are the questions too personal or aggressive?"
Uh...NO!

2. I have one question about this Did the Daily Show cover it?

3. Wow a stepford wife that cries what will they think of next.

4. HEY! Snap out of it, woman! Don't you know there's a war on!?

5. I believe that like me, Mrs. Alito is going into menopause

I cry over touching commercials and thank-you cards. No kidding, women about our age will cry over anything. We are really good at it. It is just the hormones honey. This too will pass.

6. This was a set up to distract from the nazi on trial I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was orchestrated by Rove. We need to keep hammering the prick and filibuster if necessary. Cry me a river honey.

7. I think you're right. Cornpone Lindsay Graham warn't borned yesterday, y'all know. An' ol' Lindsay, that sleazy li'l ol' two-faced type he is, he's more than capable of takin' a page from ol' Karl.

An it was ol' Lindsay who was STRIPSEARCH SAMMY'S COACH OVER THE WEEKEND, who ran the li'l Eye-talian feller through his paces so's he could wow 'em all durin' these here hearin's, y'all know. So it's awful funny that Miz A-leeto took an' cried right smack at the same time ol' Lindsay was a-praisin' Sammy like he was some sorta Atticus Finch or somethin'.

8. A bold tactic that might just work. The MSM is certainly lapping it up.

9. Crybaby

10. I'm going to cry if he gets the nomination......

11. I think she cried because she secretly agrees that her husband has not supported women's rights. She is ashamed of his involvement with CAP and has tried unsuccessfully to get him to come around on women's issues for years. When Graham apoligized, she was thinking "my pig of a husband doesn't deserve an apology," and all of her frustration was released in tears. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it. Spread it around.

Can't you just feel the "tolerance and compassion?" These people are sick.

My personal message to the cretins such as Kennedy and Biden who are making a mockery of the confirmation hearings, thanks to the Orc Grishnakh from "The Two Towers"....."Go on....call for help....squeal....no one's gonna save you now!". This message is also for all you lurking DUmmies quaking in your ripped jeans over Alito's inevitable confirmation.
