Well with that same stretch of journalistic verite, we could commence calling Senator Kennedy a murderer.

What arrogance - has he forgotten his sordid ugly part in the death of Mary Jo?

How he has survived as a leader in politics is beyond me - he is nothing more than an aged wealthy thug tagging along still after his elder brothers.

Mr. Kennedy is well versed in McCarthyism given that his brother Robert worked as a senior staff member for Senator McCarthy up until 1954. JFK did not vote for McCarthy's censure (he was in the hospital at the time) and never indicated which way he would have voted though he did write up a speech supporting censure but never gave it.

The only lesson Mr. Kennedy and the Democrats learned from the excesses of McCarthyism was how to do it without getting caught.

"Said McCarrick, "Our task force does not advocate the denial of Communion for Catholic politicians," for, otherwise, the "sacred nature of the Eucharist could be trivialized and might be turned into a partisan political battleground."

Until Communion is also denied to 'pro-choice' educators, religious, newspaper pundits, TV talking heads, etc. then focusing on some politicians only makes McCarrick right. This should be applied across the board or not at all. Right now this is like a 4 year cicada for Presidential elections and skips governors.

Guilt by association is McCarthyism.

We should be pointing that out at every turn. Hatch did on Hannity this afternoon but that's all I've heard.

Was he wrong about the communists in government and media?
No, but the far left wing is still trying to kill his message.

The Dems aren't practicing McCarthyism.

Joseph McCarthy had a point, and had facts on his side.

Alito was neither an officer nor active, but like future Sen. Bill Bradley, he joined.

Not quite. He joined ROTC, was commisioned a 2nd LT. in '72, at a time when the Army was not taking all that many ROTC grads onto extended active duty. He did serve 3 months active duty September to December of '75. Here's what Wikipedia has about it:

While a sophomore at Princeton, Alito received the (low) lottery number of 32, in a Selective Service drawing on December 1, 1969. In 1970, he became a member of the school's Army ROTC program, attending a six-week basic summer camp that year at Fort Knox, Kentucky, in lieu of having been in ROTC during his first two years in college. Graduating in 1972, Alito left a sign of his lofty aspirations in his yearbook, which said that he hoped to "eventually warm a seat on the Supreme Court."[4]

He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps after his graduation and assigned to the Army Reserve, one of nine in his class to receive a commission in the Army Reserve. Following his graduation from Yale Law School in 1975, he served on active duty from September to December, 1975, while attending the Officer Basic Course for Signal Corps officers at Fort Gordon, Georgia. The remainder of his time in the Army was served in the inactive Reserves. He had the rank of Captain when he received an Honorable Discharge in 1980.[5][6]

It sounds as if he either requested delayed entry, or even more likely was just not offered an active duty slot. One guy I work with was RIFed from the Army Signal Corps about that same time, so likely they weren't taking many ROTC grads. I know that in '73 the Air Force was offering all non-scholarship grads a Reserve slot, although I think those were active reserve, not inactive. Another guy I once worked with was also an ROTC grad who was not sent to active duty, and about that same time. I think he was Chemical Corps, and he also was released as a Captain, in spite of never serving any active duty or active reserve time. It was pretty common in that period which marked the beginning of the end of the Vietnam War, and particularly the US Army's involvement in it, save a few advisers to ARVN units.

So, what is going on here? Answer: a smear. Because Judge Alito belonged to an alumni group that had a magazine which had an offensive article, he must share those views.

Unlike the Senate Democrats who have a Klan recruter amongst them.

History proved McCarthy right on all counts. It won't happen for these Dem smear merchants.

This whole escapade reminds me of the end of the movie "The Majestic".

Sixty-six years ago, Bishop Clemens von Galen took to the pulpit of Munster Cathedral to damn Hitler's regime at the peak of its power for "plain murder" in its euthanasia program and to direct Catholics to "withdraw ourselves and our faithful from their (Nazi) influence so that we may not be contaminated by their ... ungodly behavior."

Cardinal von Galen is headed for sainthood.

What is asked of you, Cardinal McCarrick, and your fellow bishops is less heroic. Just issue a statement before the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade...

A retired priest told me Cardinal McCarrick won't take "politcal" stands because he is afraid of being blackmailed.

He wouldn't elaborate.

The only good thing that's come out of these hearings is that the Democrats have shown the American public what buffoons they really are.

I feel bad for Sam Alito & his family to have to endure this bulls**t, but it'll be worth it. He's on his way to the Supreme Court.
