BTW, I feel sort of cheated. All these Army ROTC grads that never served a day on extended active duty, nor any active reserve time with a unit or as an IMA (individual mobiliztion augmentee) and still made Captain. It took me from '73 to '83 to make Captain, despite having 2 1/2 years of active duty, about 2 years of active reserve and one year of Air National Guard service, all post commissioning, along with a break in active service from '78 through '82.

Pat meant "an officer or active" in the club. he was not referring to military service.
