According to Eric Alterman, conservative Christians dont really like the Jews. The left-wing writer suggested this in the Thursday edition of his MSNBC blog, despite admitting that he knows "darn few" right-wing Christians. (Alterman is known for writing books such as "What Liberal Media?" and others.) He came to this conclusion while expounding on the perceived anti-Semitism of some Europeans:
"I wouldnt argue that the French are not anti-Semitic and that American right-wing Christians are not philo-Semitic, but its not that simple. France had Jewish prime ministers in both the thirties and fifties and might get another one soon. No way that could happen in the United States even today. So what does that say? Heres what I think, though its not provable. In France, they dont like "the Jews" but they have no problem with Jews. I lived in Paris for a bit and it was never an issue and Ive never heard of it being an issue for any of my friends. Among Christian right-wingers, howeverof whom I know darn few, Ill admitI get the feeling they love "the Jews" but dont have much use for Jews, as individuals. Its just a thought."(Emphasis added by writer and here also)
I don't have much use for Reformed, democrat, anti-Israel Jews.
This man has got to be one of the most ignorant writers around.
No Eric, lemme 'splain: NO ONE with half a brain has any use for YOU...you miserable commie filth.
One would think that a liberal like Alterman would at least adhere to PC liberalism and not make such outrageous generalities and stereotypes. Talking about "conservative Christians" - some Roman Catholics, some Orthodox, some Methodists, some assorted evangelicals, etc., etc., etc., -- is so absurdly sweeping a category it's sort like talking about conservatives with two feet. As an old Jewish saying has it, "talk to two Jews and you get three opionions". But today from the Left we get more ideologues and doctrinaires than from anywhere on the political spectrum.
Alterman doesn't actually know any conservative Christians, but he's qualified to defame them any day of the week.
I'll add my voice to others here. Conservative Christians are the best friends Jews have in this world. They are, in Alterman's terms, "philosemitic". They support Israel, come what may, and they love Jews. Most especially, it should be pointed out, believing Jews.
Alterman probably forgets that French Jews were rounded up and loaded onto the cattle cars by Frenchmen.
And as others have pointed out, Alterman probably forgets that while he is trying to dial in the precise gradations of anti-and-philo-semitism among Americans he doesn't know, there are people determined to wipe the Jews from the face of the earth. They have the will, and they are determined to find the means. It won't be Alterman or his friends standing in the gap for Israel and the Jews, it will be the Christians. The ones he doesn't know, but feels free to defame.
Leftists are Hitler's soulmates.
Eric, any Christian who's at all well educated about the history of his faith tends to be sympathetic to the Jews. If for no other reason...what religion do you think the apostles originally were? For that matter, what religion do you think the Founder was?
:-D )))
Now there are people of the Jewish faith whom I like, and people of the Jewish faith whom I'd be perfectly happy never to see or hear from again. But that's because of factors other than their being Jewish. As it should be.
What's really sad for Alterman is that no one would know what an idiot he was if he would just keep his mouth (and laptop) shut.
God bless Israel, the Jews and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

I think he was probably a red diaper baby like David Horowitz but never came to his senses.
I don't think Alterman reads Free Republic. Just a guess.
Actually, I was thinking they sound more like the NAZIS before Hitler became de-facto Dictator.
My Lord is a Jew first. And whatever He says, I do (try my best anyway).
I have to say that the "war on the war on Christmas" brings out some pretty unpleasant sentiments among a few individuals who shouldn't be called on to represent an entire movement.
I'm glad that annual event has a defined end date.
The Jews have no friends better than the religious Christians. End of story. And Alterman is a genuine POS.
LoL!
Out of curiosity, have you ever seen Au Revoir Les Enfants? A beautiful French film about Jews being stowed away and hidden in a Catholic boarding school. Really touching film. One of my favorites. You just mentioned the whole French cattle car incident and it came to mind.
I think he is correct. I don't think we can have prime ministers in the United States.
Maybe he actually doesnt believe the cr*p he writes, if that were so I would have more respect for him. Maybe he just knows the crazier he sounds to us, the more attention and money he will get from the left.
I've noticed this pattern - David Letterman, et al.
They admit they don't watch the show, read the book, know the people - but they are more than ready to pass judgement.
It's amazing the love the Christians I know have for the Jewish people.
That the United States doesn't have Prime Ministers at all?
