Saddam's Documents
The Wall Street Journal ^ | January 13, 2006

Posted on 01/12/2006 10:03:10 PM PST by Ooh-Ah

It is almost an article of religious faith among opponents of the Iraq War that Iraq became a terrorist destination only after the U.S. toppled Saddam Hussein. But what if that's false, and documents from Saddam's own regime show that his government trained thousands of Islamic terrorists at camps inside Iraq before the war?

... Mr. Hayes also scores the Administration for failing to do more to translate and analyze the trove of documents it's collected from the Saddam era.

Mr. Hayes reports that, from 1999 through 2002, "elite Iraqi military units" trained roughly 8,000 terrorists at three different camps—in Samarra and Ramadi in the Sunni Triangle, as well as at Salman Pak, where American forces in 2003 found the fuselage of an aircraft that might have been used for training....

All of this is of more than historical interest, since Americans are still dying in Iraq at the hands of an enemy it behooves us to understand. If Saddam did train terrorists in Iraq before the war, then many of them must still be fighting there and the current "insurgency" can hardly be called a popular uprising rooted in Sunni nationalism. Instead, it is a revanchist operation led by Saddam's apparat and those they trained to use terror to achieve their political goals.

...

And the American people should know too. For three years now, opponents of the war in Congress and the bureaucracy have cherry-picked intelligence details and leaked them to influence public opinion. The Bush Administration until recently has been remarkably reluctant to fight back. Telling truths about Saddam that are revealed by his own documents is part of that fight.

Maybe the terrorist trained in Iraq would have attacked us similar to 9-11 or maybe much worse if we had not put a stop to it.

The terrorists DID train in Iraq for their 9-11 attack, at Salman Pak.

http://www.intelmessages.org/Messages/National_Security/wwwboard/messages/826.html

Two Iraqi Military defectors, an unnamed former Lt. General and a Captain Sabah Khodada recently gave details of an Iraqi school at Salman Pak which includes training for the hijacking of passenger airliners and other modes of transportation. The former Iraqi General said that there was a old Boeing 707 resting next to rail tracks on edge of Salman Pak being used in terrorist training, the existence of this aircraft has been confirmed by UN. Inspectors.

Saddam flooded parts of Salman Pak after UNSCOM got too close and unearthed bioweapons and possible mass graves of prisoners used in testing.

It is an absolute fact that the Zarqawi and his thousands of Islamic terrorists were in Iraq at least for one year before the Iraq war began in March of 2003. We know that Zarqawi received treatment in Baghdad in 2002 after he was injured in Afghanistan. We know that we killed dozens of his terrorists (called Ansar Al Islam back then) in air strikes in Iraq during the first few days of the Iraq war. There is no way that Zarqawi and his terror group can get organized, acquire all the weapons, infiltrate Iraq cities, set up safe houses, get all their finances in places, etc… after the US liberation of Iraq. They have set up their terrorist infrastructure in Iraq and under the approval of Saddam long before we toppled his terrorist regime.

I hope that the President will make this issue clear in the State of the Union address.

Exactly right - OVH is what routed Ansar al-Islam (along with Zarqawi) out of Sargat, Iraq (precisely where al Qeade was reestablishing a terror camp since losing theirs in Afghanistan) -

After the fierce fighting ended in OVH, hundreds of al Qeade / al-Islam fighters were dead...and we had taken over / secured probably the largest existing terror camp in the World since the fall of the Taliban in Stan (though this was nill reported in the MSM).

Furthermore the fact is this terror camp inside Iraq (in Sargat) was that of an international site...to the point of being indisputable - Large numbers of Arabs, evidence of frequent travel (by those stationed there) and sign after sign of linkages to other radical groups throughout the ME (which is just common sense).

This camp was also "conveniently" located right near the Iranian border.

The Salman Pak story is so old, there is no justification for anyone in the MSM not to be aware of it.
