Belafonte reasserts Bush 'worst terrorist' Defends remarks, saying press ignores 'our side of the agenda'

Harry Belafonte in interview yesterday Following an appearance at a luncheon with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., yesterday, entertainer Harry Belafonte defended his description of President Bush as the world's worst terrorist, insisting he only was being truthful and was prompting the press to cover a "side of the agenda" it ignores.
Sunday, Belafonte told Venezuela's communist-leaning President Hugo Chavez, "No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution."
Yesterday, after the Children's Defense Fund luncheon, the legendary calypso singer told reporters his comments were an attempt to "stimulate curiosity that comes from particularly the press so that we may have some kind of public debate on issues that we very rarely hear from our side of the agenda."
Belafonte's comments were broadcast on the Fox News Channel, shown in this video clip provided by National Review's Media Blog
So when I make my remarks, they may stir up controversy," Belafonte continued, "but then it's time to talk about new definitions, new points of view."
The reporter then asked Belafonte, "Some (of your comments) are a little over the top, you must admit?"
"Over whose top?" he replied.
The reporter clarified that the comments were regarded as "pretty outrageous."
"Outrageous?" Belafonte exclaimed, adding, "of course" he was only being "truthful," not outrageous.
As WorldNetDaily reported, a black activist called Belafonte's meeting with Chavez and remarks about Bush treasonous.
Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND, said Belafonte's "hatred of President Bush is causing him to embrace America's enemies."
The Venezuelan leader's strengthening of ties with communist dictator Fidel Castro of Cuba has caused concern in the Bush administration.
Peterson called Chavez "a brutal, paranoid dictator with nuclear ambitions who wants nothing more than to destroy the U.S."
If Belafonte was on my football team, and he was talking smack about the coach, he would be kicked off the team. This country is more important than any football game (go Seahawks), he should be deported and not allowed back in this country.
That's a football team. This is a country with rule of law.

There is precendence for deportation and the stripping of US citizenship. There are laws against going outside this country and speaking against it. They haven't been used in a while for sure, but they could be. John Kerry should have been arrested and deported for meeting with parties in France that were negotiating for Peace with the US in the 70's. Jane Fonda should have been arrested. Jesse Jackson and Calypso Louie should have been arrested for going to the ME to meet with enemies.
Current US law and state department policy says that's not going to happen here. Specifically, a person must perform an action with intent to give up his citizenship. In most cases, that intent must be clearly stated by the person.
The only exceptions are conviction of treason, taking a policy-level office with another country (although not always), or the extremely rare instance where a person violates a law that can result in loss of citizenship and the government decides his actions in doing so were so outrageously inconsistent with citizenship that intent is obvious.
It's also interesting that even stating intent may not be good enough. Marc Rich (Clinton's favorite pardon) continued to use his US passport after officially renouncing citizenship and kept referring to himself as an American. The court held that meant he lacked true intent, was therefore a citizen, and thus subject to a certain lawsuit.
It's a fine line. To simply say "I think Bush is a bad President and I do not support him" is not treason.
Calling the leader of your own country a terrorist? I don't know...it's damn close to treason if it ain't already.
