In I Corps - most Intel Officers were NOT REMF...they were often "near in fear" when the SHTF!
It was not uncommon to have them exposed and in harm's way... Hell, you could even get yourself killed mainside DaNang!
I have no difficulty accepting the story that Murtha may have been of this type and in harm's way ---- I simply doubt the truth of his "heroics" and his DESERVING two "Purple Hearts"..

I was in the Army in II and III Corps and can only go by my own experiences. Most of the time when they showed up it was to direct the collection of papers and stuff, do some Order of Battle ID's and make sure we missed nothing.
