Young Marine Blasts Rep. Murtha at Town Hall Meeting (Not Marine, Soldier)
The Post Chronicle ^ | 1/14/06 | Jim Kouri

Posted on 01/14/2006 7:35:58 AM PST by RepublicNewbie

During a Town Hall meeting earlier this week Democrat Congressmen John Murtha (PA) and Jim Moran (VA) touted their call for a withdrawal from Iraq, an unexpected turn of events occurred.

Moran and Murtha continued the anti-war diatribes which included their relating talks they've had with military officers and rank-and-file troops in Iraq. Murtha has said the military is broken, morale within the ranks is poor, we need to pullout immediately, and other defeatist rantings.

Murtha had just finished his presentation during the Virginia townhall meeting, in which he added that he feared a slow withdrawal may give people the impression the US achieved victory (God forbid Americans think we're victorious), when he opened the meeting for a question and answer session.

At that point a man stood and spoke:

"Yes sir my name is Mark Seavey and I just want to thank you for coming up here. Until about a month ago I was Sergeant Mark Seavey infantry squad leader, I returned from Afghanistan. My question to you, (applause)

"Like yourself I dropped out of college two years ago to volunteer to go to Afghanistan, and I went and I came back. If I didn't have a herniated disk now I would volunteer to go to Iraq in a second with my troops, three of which have already volunteered to go to Iraq. I keep hearing you say how you talk to the troops and the troops are demoralized, and I really resent that characterization. (applause) The morale of the troops that I talk to is phenomenal, which is why my troops are volunteering to go back, despite the hardships they had to endure in Afghanistan.

The video of this exchange is available on Michelle Malkin's site. The most unbelievable thing is what Murtha and Moran do after the marine finishes.

That whole free-speech thing can be a really double edged sword, huh Martha.

Hmmm... I find it very interesting that the documentation for Murtha's "two purple hearts" seems to be elusive. Shades of John Kerry, indeed.

This will be interesting to follow up. Are there any of Murtha's old comrades who can tell us of his service?

Ummm, conservative as I am...and despising Murtha & his unpatriotic anti-American puting-politics-above-America-and-her-troops liberal idiot fans, this comment was directed at Rep. Moran (the racist un-gentleman representing the Sergeant's district in Arlington, VA.) not Murtha. His comments only said he had not gotten a thank you or acknowlegement for his service from Congress.

Does Murtha send out thank you notes to servicemen? Probably not, but this exchange had nothing to do with Murtha.

"Marine giving it back to Murtha in today's Post Chronicle"

If they follow the Clinton playbook, they will try to harm this young man's future. It will be worth watching.

I'm wondering why there aren't more like Seavey who are willing to slap down these folks?

Exactly. He shames the uniform he once wore. He's just an old fart enjoying the spotlight.

Does anybody else think that Murtha *looks* like an evil scumbag? That if you saw him in the supermarket or Sears, not knowing who he was, you'd say to yourself, "That guy looks like an evil scumbag?"

I wish I could talk to Murtha myself, just to drive this point home. I've done two tours in Iraq, with to different units, and I have a possible third tour pending. Out of the two units I deployed with (the first for the invasion the second between '04 and '05) THE ENTIRE TWO UNITS, I found only one dissenter. We all hate it, being away from our families, not being able to come and go as we please, but our moral is definitely not low. We know that what we have done and what we are doing is the right thing. We are reaffirmed every time we meet an Iraqi citizen who hugs us, or shakes our hand, or runs to the edge of the road to wave and smile as we drive by. We are reaffirmed when we meet Iraqi citizens (at the Iraqi tomb of the unknown for example) that expresses their joy at the freedom they have now to be able to walk up to and pay tribute at national monuments, a freedom they were forever denied.

Iraq sucks, but we know what we do is right, and we are proud to do it.

I think you need to watch the WHOLE video. Your characterization is not representative of the soldier's comments.

Moran: "Well, it wasn't in the form of question, so let's ignore that it ever happened."

What the hell is this, Jeopardy.

I just listened to the whole thing again, and yes he does mention the morale of the troops is very high (contra Murtha and the DemocRats claims), still his comments were directed at Moran, not Murtha (though yes, Murtha was on the panel).

I agree that all the libs complaints are anti-American, trying to put Bush down for their own politics, however still, this particular exchange was not toward Murtha, it was toward (the even scummier) Moran.

I used to be a constituent of Moran, so I do know the guy is a total jerk & fraud and racist womanizer too.
