Ben is an up and coming conservative who has a weekly article on the Townhall.com website. I always read his column which are very good. He was criticized by some on the posts on townhall for wrong facts, but I think his article is overall pretty good.

I quit caring about the Oscars when Young Shakespeare in Love beat out Saving Private Ryan.

Skipping it this year? Heck, I can't remember the last time I even watched the thing.

With all the attention directed at gayness this year (Brokeback Mountain, Trans America, and Capote), it seems as though many will be skipping to the Oscars.

Really care less about any of those award shows.

But the FR thread will be a hoot :) Hooray for Hollyweird.

I'll be rearranging my sock drawer and scrubbing the toilet instead.

I ususally end up watching the Oscars although I rarely go to a movie. Some of not going to see a movie is because we have small kids, some of it is because of the price, but mostly I don't go because they keep churning out crap, and I also have trouble separating the actors' spew in real life from their roles.

Funny he mentions 1993 because 1994 was about the year I stopped going to see movies. 2005 we saw one movie at the theater--March of the Penguins. There are two I would like to see on DVD--Downfall and The Great Raid.

I do like the live FReeper Oscar thread making fun of how people look and what they say--lots of fun. So I'll probably tune in again this year and have more good times with my fellow Hollywood hating conservatives.

This has been a problem for decades.

The "Best Picture" of 1948 was a Gregory Peck movie called "Gentlemen's Agreement." It is so self-satisfied and preachy it is almost unwatchable.

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (best writing, nominated best picture 1968) is almost as bad and is only partly redeemed by the acting of three of the four leads. The fourth lead, Katherine Houghton (Katherine Hepburn's niece) was in WAY over her head. A mediocre actress is never quite so shown up as when surrounded by superior actors. She didn't take another role for eight years.

Hooray for Hollyweird.

Yes, hooray for them. They are very entertaining but not in the way they think they are.

Does it seem that this time of year, all the entertainment organizations have an orgy of self-congratulation extravaganzas?

Boooring.

Heh heh heh heh heh.

He wasn't nominated, but I think the Best Actor award ought to go to this guy....

I'm so dazzled by a movie celebrating gay love. Except its not in the same category as "Romeo and Juliet." That's why I'm skipping the Oscars this year.

DEFINITELY! I liked the movie alright in the theater but we got it on DVD and I enjoyed it a whole lot more--we've watched it several times now. I had my three year old with me at theater when we saw it so that may have been why I didn't enjoy it as much there. After 20 minutes of sitting and he loses interest--that's including the 10 minutes of previews.

If you analyze these films, they all slam America. That's the bottom line. So the message is, if you have an idea that dumps American culture/beliefs/country/people/ etc., -- an original anti-American idea would be nice, we're getting sick of pushing the gay lifestyle -- go west, young man. Hollywood awaits. As for that new TV show, Daniel something or other, the one with the episcopalian priest whose life/family is out of control...what are the chances TV moguls would put on a show featuring Muslims in like circumstances? A comedy.
