Duke has always been a rich wannabe. That's why they've gone out of their way to throw money at just about anybody who can get them headlines.

Pity, because I believe that once upon a time, they may actually have had some kind of academic life, and they weren't badly thought of, particularly in the legal world. I'm sure they're still well thought-of, although they've replaced performance with liberal bluster. But who am I to say? The latter probably sells better in any case.

Until the mid-sixties Duke was a sort of finishing school for rich who couldn't make it into one of the Ivies. Then
Duke decided to change its image. What does it change to:
not a unique and individual university but into a pathetic and pale imitation of those institutions that will never accept it.
Duke is similar to the young man who has been rejected by the best frat on campus. Instead of trying to be his own
man, he mimics the pledges of best frat.
