Schools To Allow Christmas Symbols (no more intimidation by ADL)

EAST WINDSOR -- Santa will be back in the schools next year.

After they noticed that Christmas decorations were being removed from the schools, a couple of parents approached the schools superintendent, suggesting that his interpretation of a letter sent by the Anti-Defamation League was wrong.

...After consulting the conservative American Center for Law and Justice, LaMonde said, they found that federal court precedents do allow such things as singing Christmas carols with religious themes and displaying religious symbols during Christmas. They also learned that teachers can discuss the origins of the symbols in a historical context.

Superintendent of Schools Joseph Gallucci said he and other superintendents in the state received information from the Anti-Defamation League warning them that clear standards and guidelines for displaying religious symbols in public schools are elusive.

He passed the information along to administrators. Gallucci also told them Hartford Public Schools, where he worked previously, did not display Christmas trees or Santa Clauses to avoid offending others.

"How do you interpret it as a school district?" Gallucci said Friday. "We're trying to do things according to the law."

After the parents brought another interpretation of the law to his attention, Gallucci said, he consulted with the school district's attorney and looked up legal cases. The information he found backed up what the parents told him. Court cases had backed the display of such symbols, he said.

IF that's what the bigots at the ADL warned, then they were lying. But it wouldn't surprise me, coming from the hate organization that tried to smear Mel Gibson into submissive silence. Abe Foxman is just a David Duke with a different religion.

Alito is for allowing religious symbols - even Christian symbols - in the public square. Has Foxman taken a stand on the Alito nomination?
