Buckley is brilliant, but I wouldn't say he's a great debator. His pretentious 'accent' and use of archaic language might confuse the person he's debating enough to beat them though.

Presuming that you've recovered from the lightening strike after typing those words, William F. Buckley, Jr. is hands-down the best convservative debater. I am fortunate enough to have taped several of the "Firing Line Debates", and there was never a moment that he wasn't kicking ass and taking names. His charm and humor, on top of his ability to articulate conservative principles, gives him a huge edge over Gingrich and Horowitz. Limbaugh is obviously good, but Buckley is smarter and wittier in making his points.

Okay, you got me. Buckley is Linux as compared to MS Windows; he's Firefox as compared to IE. Or something like that. I do like his wit and intelligence but sometimes he makes my brain hurt. The aversion to the stuffy accent is just personal taste. For instance, I love Michael Savage's voice and accent but I hardly ever agree with what he is saying.

Oh, what the heck. I'm not communicating very well and just digging myself in deeper. I feel ignorant and beat up today. waaahhh :o)
