Zogby Poll Shows Blackwell Beats Strickland

“Conclusive Evidence” Blackwell is the Best for GOP in November

(Columbus, January 19, 2006) In dramatic results that could settle the Ohio GOP primary, the Wall Street Journal’s Zogby Poll today showed Republican Secretary of State Ken Blackwell leading Democrat Congressman Ted Strickland in a head to head general election survey by 4.5% (45.9% to 41.4%). The poll showed Attorney General Jim Petro trailing Strickland by 7.5% (41.8% to 34.3%) with the third GOP candidate, Auditor Betty Montgomery, trailing Strickland by more than 10% (42.8% to 32.5%). The survey had a margin of error of 2.8% (plus or minus) and was conducted January 6-12, 2006.

“This is conclusive evidence that Ken Blackwell is the best candidate to represent the GOP in the fall. It’s time to clear the field and prepare for November,” said Blackwell campaign manager Mike Hernon.

“Ken’s strong positions have clearly won over Ohio Republicans, with 85% of GOP support in the head to head with Strickland compared to Petro’s weak 67% and Montgomery’s paltry 61% support among GOP rank and file,” Hernon added.

“This survey also confirms the Rasmussen Report of January 3 that Blackwell is the strongest Republican candidate, and that Petro’s tv campaign bounce has already faded,” Hernon concluded.

Blackwell also did the best of the GOP candidates against all other potential Democratic candidates, including State Senator Eric Fingerhut. Blackwell bounced Fingerhut by 7.6% (47.3% to 39.7%).

This survey marks a continuation of Blackwell polling success, even in surveys sponsored by his opponents.

Blackwell has developed a statewide grassroots network of more than 10,000 supporters, raised more money than his opponents in the last reporting period, and is expected to better those totals in his January 31 campaign finance report filing.

Don't always trust Zogby...but I'll take it as good news. Other polls have shown similar results.

I'm sorry, Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi have assured me that the election is already over due to the Republican Culture of Corruption. Really, its over. We all know that the dems are as pure as the wind driven snow and are our only real chance at reform. /sarcasm

I took the Zogby poll via the internet, selected any Republican over every Democrat. Picked Blackwell over Petro.

Is this a real poll or one of Zogby's Internet surveys? If it's an Internet survey, then it is absolutely worthless.

But 87% may not be enough for Dems to win...

If we ever got it down to 80% the Democrats would go out of business.

I think 70% is the magic number, but at 80% the RATs will start deserting the ship.

Yes, but there are still very complex issues in dealing with the now largest minority in America, that being Hispanics. I have always believed that most Hispanics are conservtaive by nature, but that being said, I've also thought that most African Americans are conservtaive by nature, though the vote does not reflect that.

The future of the Republican Party will depend upon splitting, or winning the Hispanic vote. This will not come through amnesty schemes or lax immigration policies, but rather by simply marketing our product to the various communities and ethnicities.

Actually, Blackwell has gotten between 40%-50% of the black vote in his past statewide elections, and President Bush improved his share of the black vote in Ohio from 9% in 2000 to 17% in 2004. I think Blackwell will get at least 25% of the black vote, making it very difficult for Strickland to win.

Amen to that. We need to emphasize our conservatism, not hide it.

If we can keep the Hispanics from coalesing into a nationalistic movement they will naturally want to identify with winners to be upwardly mobile. they will tell you that there is no such thing as an Hispanic. It is the black nationalism that has held many back.

blackwell is ready. I saw him doing a press conference for Alito and he really had control of the room. I have also sent him money.

This time next year, we could very well be talking about black governors in Ohio and Pennsylvania and a black US Senator in Maryland --- all REPUBLICANS.

I can also invision Race Bating Rats heads exploding from sea to shining sea.

"With Republicans running strong black governor candidates in OH and PA and a black senatorial candidate in MD will blacks continue to vote 90% dem?"

If Blackwell, Swann and Steele all win {or run well} in '06, the demonRATS on the national ticket in '08 will be running uphill. Imagine, having these three very smart, articulate, black conservatives campaigning for the pubbie candidate and stating the obvious fact that the pubbie party is the party of opportunity for young smart black people. We won't get 30% but if we just get 20-25% of the black vote, the RATS are toast. The demonRATS have depended on such a high rate of the black vote, just to make it close in a lot of blue states. Look at WI, MN, PA in the '04 elections and just think what a 20% swing would mean {that's 10% less for the RATS and 10% more for the pubbies}. Believe me, these kind of thoughts are giving the RATS heartburn.
