Reagan Changed America and World
Human Events ^ | January.20,2006 | Congressman John Shadegg

Posted on 01/20/2006 4:07:12 PM PST by Reagan Man

Ronald Reagan ran for President to change America. In the end, he changed the world.

Today, on the 25th Anniversary of his Inauguration, we should remember his legacy and remind ourselves that what brings Republicans together is far stronger than what pulls us apart. When we are the party of ideas, we win because our ideas are better. As Republicans, we believe in a smaller, more efficient federal government, returning power to the states, lower taxes, and individual freedom.

None of these beliefs is shared by our Democrat colleagues, who continue to rely on old-fashioned, big government solutions to every problem. They believe that regulation and expanded federal power are the answer to every question, and that higher taxes are the way to pay for it. Their idea of America's future is the sort of socialist statism that has failed in many parts of the world.

Ronald Reagan knew that America is different. We can and should be the shining city on a hill - a beacon of hope and freedom. That vision inspired a generation of Republicans; we should honor him by continuing to make sure his ideals are our ideals.

There's just gotta be another Reagan out there somewhere to run in 2008.

I was 15 years old on his inauguration... you could "feel" things were about to change for the better.

At the time Reagan was in office the left thought he was a dullard. After he left office I think most finally realized that he was a genius.

One can only hope that the guy the left thought was a genius while in office is regarded by history as a moron. (Clinton)

Unfortunately, I think not. I'm just thankful that there was one in my lifetime. May God rest and bless your soul President Reagan.

If 2008 comes and goes without Mike Pence getting elected POTUS and if the GOP holds onto Congress, I'd like to see Pence become House Speaker.

Hey, why wait!

Delay is gone. Hastert needs to go.

He's right about Reagan, but the party politics may be a little more complicated. The Republicans are the party of lower taxes, but apparently less spending depends on strong party competition, not just on electing one party over the other.

I know what you mean. I totally disagree. Poltiics has always been a hardball proposition. Since the days of Coolidge, Eisenhower, Goldwater and Reagan, the GOP leadership has always been for limited govt and tax reform. Not for bigger government. Reagan had to deal with a Democrat controlled House and Speaker Tip O'Neill. Bush is the leader of the majority party in America. Hastert and Frist lead the Congress. What more can you ask for. Where is the fiscal responsibility on spending conservatives are demanding? Nowhere to be found. That is pathetic leadership.

Should be repeated often until the message sinks in with the GOP "leadership".
